Pak to become worlds largest HR market of business management
By Muhammad Yasir
KARACHI: Pakistan's talented human resource (HR) is expected to play a vital role in the developing economies of Asia and Africa despite worst law and order situation.
Pakistani students have proved their extraordinary potential particularly in the business management field. Regional Director South Asia and Middle East, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Bradley Emerson said in an exclusive interview with Daily Times during his visit to inaugurate the second facilitation centre in Lahore.
CIMA established its first office in Karachi and has affiliated 15 colleges and institutes in just one year. The management has planned to open its new facilitation centers in Islamabad and Peshawar.
I foresee Pakistan to steal the title from Sri Lanka as the biggest market outside the UK in producing business leaders in the next five to seven years. Pakistan has the emerging and huge market of chartered accountants as many students passed their exams with flying colors without taking any tuition. Lots of students will join this field if institutions facilitate them", he said.
"I have interviewed many people in Pakistan and found amazing talent that I didn't explore in Sri Lanka, Emerson - who is also Sri Lankan, said "People are intellectuals, skilled and creative and have thrust of knowledge, which must change Pakistan's standing", he said.
Amazingly, a Karachi-based student, Hassan Siddiq, secured second position among 72,000 students of different countries and attracted the attention of global business corporations toward Pakistan.
CIMA students' registration witnessed a double-digit growth last year and it is expected to increase manifold in the years to come. In 2008, only 262 students got enrolled with CIMA, which soared to 524 in 2009 and the number of students got enrolled so far in 2010 has reached 388.
The three key hubs of education-Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad-will not only facilitate students living in others adjoining and smaller cities of the country but will also support students in multiple cities of Iran and Afghanistan, he told Daily Times.
Emerson was of the view that CIMA will execute its services across the country because he personally dispels the notion of bad law and order situation reflecting on talent and education of the people.
Sri Lanka has been going through an upheaval since 1980 but it somehow managed to produce talented people. Pakistan - despite facing chronic issues of terrorism, law and order - will improve the performance of its youth.
The education has become the second religion for people in Asia so parents tend to sacrifice everything for better education of their children.
Director explains that CIMA designs syllabus, conducts exams, recognises faculty and inspects tuitions in its accredited institutes to maintain its standards. Therefore, it believes in quality rather than quantity of students. Though the business management studies, it provides, is affordable and lower compared with other degrees.
A CIMA qualified person has acceptance with other institutes in Canada, Australia and UK and he or she is also the member of the same institutes of other countries along with CIMA. It also attracts engineers and doctors seek to enhance their skills in management.
A great number of students particularly in Pakistan are self-sponsored as they become capable to get executive class jobs in the middle of their course. Investing time on education is wise if it pays you well in return because business management studies are the next generation, world business and out-of-box thinking solution.
Asians are coming back to their homelands and investing their capital to get handsome returns comparing with other western countries with the shifting business potential to toward Asia and West Africa.
The entire economy's centre of gravity is moving to east as investment opportunities have been located in China and India, and countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan will provide the talent to emerging worlds economies in future," he added.
