PAK SUZUKI ANNOUNCES SHUTTING DOWN PRODUCTION PLANT

Honestly, it is a piece of junk assembly line in any case. Overcharging Pakistanis for trash that could not be given away for free in other countries. Not suggesting that factories being shut down is a good thing but in the case of Pak-Suzuki, it has outlived its shelf-life yet is still shoving trash down Pakistanis' throats.
Assembling car parts made in Thailand if I remember correctly.

Two thoughts come to mind; 1. no export potential of this plant, because it just assembles foreign made parts, to offset local issues. 2. Why are functional business at the mercy of the disruption of local governments. Couldn’t, presumably these business be able to afford to import from the world market if they had enough local demand and funds to keep their businesses running? This issue really came to mind with the shut down of major textile factories that earn exports.

Just remember where Pakistan and the textile industry were only 18 months ago.

auto industry has never achieved localization targets and is heavily dependent on imports.. in the current economic scenario the future of local auto industry is dark for sure.

It’s not much of a car industry if it’s just assembling parts. What do you figure it would cost to set up a real car production line in Pakistan, with complete engine and transmission production locally?

Import issues are what limit the industry, and if a brand can produce everything locally it can capture what remains of the market in these tough times.

The Suzuki Alto seems like a decent enough car, but above the price range of most consumers. Local production may help bring down the price.
