A Pakistan Army regular, who sneaked into India, was arrested by security forces in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, an infantry man from the Mujahideen brigade, was nabbed by Army personnel near Neel border post, official sources said.

The Army is ascertaining whether Ahmed had some purpose or he simply strayed in the LoC, they said. Army authorities are interrogating him and have not handed him yet to the police, they said.

A Pakistan Army regular, who sneaked into India, was arrested by security forces in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday (December 29). Naik Sarfraz Ahmed of Pakistan's 801 Mujhadeen Battalion, was arrested by the Indian Army, following which the latter is ascertaining whether Ahmed had some purpose or he simply strayed in the Line of Control (LoC).

Army authorities are interrogating him and have not handed him yet to the police. Meanwhile sources in the Indian Army have confirmed that the Pakistani jawan, who was arrested had actually strayed into India accidentally.

The Indian Army said that the jawan would be handed over to Pakistan on Wednesday (December 30). Based on the cease-fire agreement between India and Pakistan, authorities will take the necessary action and the arrested soldier is likely to be sent back after the investigation, official sources said in New Delhi.

The arrest was made at the Anil Post in Keran Sector of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Sources say that the Pakistani soldier Sarfraz was arrested by the 16 J&K Light Infantry men after he was seen moving suspiciously.

any non-indian sources, please? I find it very difficult that a jawan would end up in india of all places....

only time our soldiers will be in indian territory is in the event of war

Sir, if he got arrested in India then the chances are that the news will flash in Indian media first...and the other news agencies are going to use the same reference point.....

Wait and watch.... how the event unfolds.

i saw this news yesterday....still waiting for confirmation from other sources.

will wait and see

Anyways, he will be handed over to pakistan safe and sound, who knows what his intentions were?

soldiers in Pakistan Army follow orders of superiors....so i find it fishy that a soldier would just wander off and stray into indian land. Therefore, i doubt he was a soldier. But lets see.

I doubt it because if they follows their superiors order then Pakistan shouldn't have seen two-three decades of military rule.

about the soldier, it could be the honest mistake. let the IA do investigate and if everything is 'ok' then they'll release him.
