THATTA: Pakistan is set to break Indian record of planting highest number of saplings in one day, as it has embarked on an ambitious plan of planting more than seven lacs of saplings at Kharochan in the coastal area on Saturday here, Geo News reported.


Sources said that the campaign for planting of sapling was launched early morning at 6.20 A.M. at Kharochan in Thatta coastal area with the assistance of Asian Development Bank, Coastal Community Development and Forest department, which would continue until 7.30 P.M. in the evening.


Some three hundred volunteers are engaged in trying to break the Indian record by planting more than seven lacs of mangrove saplings at a place called Tarshan creek.


Earlier in August 2009, India had set the world record by planting 6,11,137 saplings, while in July 2009 Pakistan had planted 5, 41, 176 saplings.
