Pak says it does not want another war with India

.
War is not an option in South Asia. It has become clear as mud to those who matter!

All those cheering for war from the sidelines while being safely ensconced in the West or after being "talked out" do not matter. Internet warriors do not matter either.

Just let a little more peace dividend percolate to the masses and both the the countries to develop a vested interest in peace.

See how these merchants of death run with their tails between their legs.

Normally we wont hear anything like this from the GOI. Somehow we are too keen in advertising such opinions where none matters to the other side. I said none because the honeymoon trip with the indians will end pretty much soon once a bomb is blasted in india and we are accused for that right there and then or for that matter the water issue related to JK.
War might not always be the right solution specially for developing countries, but if everything could be achieved through composite dialouge, then saddam would have easily left the government of iraq and tailbans would have handed over osama to the US. The world would have never heard the word called war.

War is not an option, not because all is hunky dory or because there are suddenly all doves on both sides!

It is not an option because it has been tried for 60 years and not yielded results. And with the growing asymmetry and with the nuclear element, no side can force it's way without having to pay much more than any perceived gains.

Only a mad man would go for war while knowing that he can't gain from it. And politicians and army men are not mad (they may show that they are).

Its just a question of practicality, not altruism!

If Afghanistan can be a part of SAARC why not include Iran?
Interesting though indeed. This will not only put Iran out of isolation, she'll have to strike a balance between India and Pakistan aswell.

Oh it most definitely should be invited to be part of SAARC.

My skepticism is more related to its participation being meaningful in anyway, since the US will use all of its leverage to deny Iran normal economic ties with the SAARC countries.

Hence my statement that perhaps, if Obama is elected POTUS, he might resume talks with the regime, and both sides back down and engage constructively, in which case there wouldn't be any issue at all.

Heck if that happens, and India and Pakistan are still no where close to normalization, the EU continues to keep Turkey out, the possibility of energizing the ECO/RCD with a common market of Turkey, Iran and Pakistan may become an option as well - especially if Pakistan's economy continues to grow and we continue to develop our human resources - something which was sorely lacking the first time around the ECO/RCD were attempted.

Interesting thoughts indeed, I'd support an "Oberserver" status for Iran in SAARC untill IP(I) becomes a reality.

USA too requested same status last year, decision is still pending. Giving Iran the status prior to USA would certainly piss off some Congressmen. ;)

Personally I'm not a fan nor supporter of SAARC, its a dead child constantly hampered by hostility and inablity by India and Pakistan to put regional interests ahead of national ones.

Indtead we should concentrate in playing a bigger role in Middle East and Shanghai Group, Pakistan can play a key role as multifunctional transit hub between the two blocks.
