Pak-Russia defence agreement

Pak-Russia defence agreement | The Nation

According to reports citing Pakistani military sources, Russia has agreed to a military accord with Pakistan, though of which nature it is not yet clear. Still it is a major success of the détente going on manifest through visits of COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Pakistan. The accords are not only defence related; agreements concerning Steels Mills, Railways, thermal power plants, import of electricity whereby Russia would be according help have been inked during FM Lavrov’s meetings with Pakistani officials.
It has been reported that the defence ministries of both the countries will be giving final shape to the agreements. Once the foundations of a strong partnership are laid, a fascinating era of joint cooperation would follow. There is a lot that can be achieved in the field of military cooperation; Russian arms technology is envied the world over and so is its economy that during the recent years is being restored to its former strength owing to visionary measures by successive governments. There is hence great promise in trade relations as well since Islamabad too is looking for more trade partners to kick-start its economy battered by years of fighting a war on terrorism and poor management. What is important at this moment is to keep the momentum going so as to turn the ongoing exchanges into an exemplary relationship. The stage set by General Kayani for defence ties will hopefully herald a new era of broad based Pak-Russia ties.

Note:
sources indicate that during the visit of COAS Gen. Kayani, the Russian govt has offered Pakistan attack helicopters and fighter aircraft. Which in its self is a major break through

the link doesnt says so

let suppose they offer us
attack helicopter and fighter aircraft but the question is do we have money to pay?

The best thing Russia can offer ko Pakistan is
s300 air defence system which paf itself is looking for
and the upgraded rd93 engine with fadec and 93kn thrust

Just push for S-300 or S-400 and that would be a major break through. Fighter jets is not a problem. JF-17 project is growing and we can get J-10s and J-11s from China for a very low cost, if we want to.

Can Pakistan keep US , Russia , China , Iran and India happy at the same time and develop for its people, but if its time to take sides then every one can see that Liaquat Ali khan made a mistake not to visit Russia and too jump in US camp.

Can anyone specify the nature of the agreement?? What are the objectives achieved by the Pakistani COAS visit to Russia ??

+ IMHO, India will object to any high tech. weapon sale to Pakistan, it objected even when Russians were selling the RD-93 engines to Pakistan, also when US was giving more F-16s to PAF. Yes, it din't stop them from selling what they wanted but certainly delayed a little. I think Russia will never sell a defence equipment to Pakistan that can alter the regional balance, the max. i can think of is giving them attack helos but fighter jets - never.

lo gee india ki bansuri bajna shuru ho gai hai phir se .2 sovereign countries ki deal main india ki power dekho

You can buy any weapon from any country, you should have money for that. There is no shortage of market of defence equipment. This is the only industry which flourish even in slowdown.

I have read relevant news from some 50 credible sources, and no one mentined the noted part. Please refrain from spreading baseless rumors.

I wish the deal would come with some 110 new Mi-17V7s not V5s. About 70 for Pakistan Army, 30 for PAF and 10 for N-Force.

and they dint give anything in free.If they gave secondary weapons then we paid even for that and now we have money and they are ready to provide top class arms

Saare bhikhari ni hai yahan pe ;)

Imran bhai, seedha sa sawal kiya tha, jawab nahi pata toh bol dete

What i had said is completely reasonable, Russia has a defence export of around $ 8 billion/year, of which India buys some 40% of defence sales, Believe it or not India has leverage over Russia as far as defence sales are concerned, not only over Russia, India is now even objecting to the US weapon sales to Pakistan & lately it has shown some effects (however little it may be).

Just tell me, wouldn't Pakistan object if all of a sudden China decides to sell high tech weaponry to India??
