What's new

Pak Army's new Body Armour

Why don't we make modern plate carriers?

What is it about our physiology, education, and culture (aka the excuses I hear whenever it comes to standard issue equipment) that stops us from making and issuing modern plate carriers?

Heck, why can't we do as much for specifically our SOF units? Why do we look like cops and grunts from a '90s made-for-TV movie?
Same goes with the Helmet..

World is moving with Plate carriers and MICH/ACH helmets but we are stuck with blast from the past 80s stuff.

So a video was released by ISPR of COAS visiting Frontlines along the Afghan border & in it new types of vests where shown.
While PA Officers in the past have had separate vests than regular soldiers but they also have gotten new types.

Starting with what appears to be new type of heavy ceramic vests in use by SSG

It is very similar to the current standard vest but it is definitely not the same , the current standard vest is this one below

Open to suggestions or if you have seen these types before , always good to confirm info .
Ain't no ceramic plates. Only 2.3 mm steel plates..

Why would they buy expensive ones when you can get steel plates at less price?

.
Plus they don't even wearing a proper vest for SAPI plates.

Most of these officers vests and new vests are for square shaped plates but these dudes are running SAPI cut plates. Meaning they are not covering their chests properly.

Our Army has to face opponents armed with AK-47s, they have to wear heavy plates, it's a necessity. The so called modern light weight ones don't offer same protection. They are crude but effective.
I was once told a security force was looking for AK-47 level protection helmet and help in sourcing, only a US company claimed to provide one but turned out was dubious, used hollow rounds in demo display videos. Chinese manufacturers pointed out was useless as helmet would be too heavy and recoil from the shot to head alone would be deadly.

ALMOST none of these vests are issued officially. Instead they are privately procured... Depends on unit to unit.....
Not a good move than. That opens up the gates for corruption. Army should select few types and than produce them in Pakistan. This unit to unit to thing is formula for corruption.

Have you ever worn one? I guess not!

They are heavy, cumbersome, restrict airflow thus increase the body temperature, increased sweating, and restrict body movement even in the standard format, you cover the neck and pelvic area and essentially you are frying the person inside.
HIT does make this NJ III + jacket

s a matter of fact I have. They are heavy no doubt but when you are faced with bullets flying your way, I think it would be better to sweat, fry and live, instead of dying for the sake of comfort.
Also, modern Kevlar is extremely light and flexible. There’s a company in Mexico doing some great work on that. These look outdated anyway

No helmet is rated for AK.

Let me explain.
Lvl 3A helmets are rated for handguns at close ranges.
Any round starting from .44 magnum all the way above its not going to help.

But at longer distances 500m plus there is a high chance it's gonna stop a 7.62 round.
Watch the helmet of the guy in in front. At 18 seconds.

Now. Modern light weight plates do offer amazing protection. Lvl 4 plates can stop a 50cal round but can't guarantee if the person gonna survive.

Most widely used plates are lvl 3a which provide protection against .308. even if you're wearing a full body armour you can't move easily. You will soon on your knees because of the weight.
Still bullet will find a way and hit you straight in the neck, Face, groin or thigh rupturing your femoral artery. You will bleed out in 60 seconds.

We are still living in Flintstones world in terms of soldier gear, and that's what matters on the ground. An urgent major rationalization and modernization is required in equipment available to our soldiers and a decision must be taken to increase quality not quantity of men on ground

Shouldnt vest be issued officially to a soldier and if they are than question arises why does one feel the need to procure privately? Is it related to quality issues?

It has more to do with ease of one's movement.

. . .
It's always adjustable due to built in straps.
I am sorry for bothering you but i am not getting it that where it the problem than? You mentioned about the ease of movement has it got to do with anything else besides the size?
