AW109 is light weight, can support 6/7 passengers

AW-139 is MEDIUM weight, can support 15/16 passengers!

Different machines for different roles/duties!

One is a light weight heli the other is larger medium weight helicopter.

11 received and more on order according to wikipedia. Since PAF is getting them for SAR likely taking over from Alouttes in SAR role.

Why not than have a look at the AW 119 by the same vendor. Uses a variant of the same engine as AW 139.

AW 119 and AW 109 are of same class just the former has a single engine against 2 of the latter. But still it has a impressive safety record with just 1 engine, saves costs too.
In fact try to get a deal like the Algerians.

Here in Portugal we are allmost sure that the replacement for the Alouette III will be the AW119kx Koala, its much more cheap to by and operate than the AW109.

No Way, they are flying since 1963. The contract is for the last 6 to be delivered back to the winner
