PAF will use China's AESA radar to upgrade JF-17 "Thunder" (known as "China Fierce Dragon")
JF-17分三种类型:Block I,Block II和Block III。

The JF-17 (China's so-called "Dragon") multi-purpose fighter aircraft used by the Pakistani Air Force is said to be upgraded with a Chinese-made active electronic scanning array radar system to increase the combat capabilities of the fighter. This fighter aircraft is jointly manufactured by the Pakistan Aviation Association and China Aviation Industry Corporation.
According to a report by the American Foreign Affairs Scholars' Web site on April 2, Hu Mingchun, an expert from China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, said that the KLJ-7A active electronic scanning array radar system will greatly increase the operational capability of the JF-17.
Hu Mingchun said: "Our products will greatly extend the scouting scope of this fighter so that it can have a farther vision and help to find each other before being discovered by the enemy. This is very important, because in actual combat, first, When you see it, you can fire it first. This radar can track dozens of targets and fight several of them at the same time. It also has good anti-jamming capability and can protect the fighter from the enemy's electronic interference."
There are three types of JF-17: Block I, Block II and Block III. Block I and II aircrafts use the KLJ-7X band fire control radar developed by Nanjing Electronics Research Institute. The JF-17 Block III will not only be equipped with new active electronic scanning array radar systems, but will also be equipped with new electronic warfare systems and a full set of improved avionics. A certain number of Block IIs and future Block IIIs are also equipped with air refuelling pipes, indicating that such aircraft can perform more remote maritime combat missions. The Pakistan Air Force and Navy also conducted live-fire exercises last month, including the use of a JF-17 to launch an anti-ship missile.
The Pakistan Airways Association has so far delivered 50 Block I and 50 Block II. The other 12 Block IIs are expected to be delivered to the Pakistan Air Force by the end of 2018. The annual domestic production of the Pakistani aviation consortium JF-17 fighter aircraft is 25 aircraft. After completing the production of Block II, Pakistan’s aviation consortium will shift to the production of Block III. JF-17 Block III is said to be based on the JF-17 two-seat trainer.
This fighter is a multi-functional combat aircraft that can replace air-to-air, air-to-ground, and anti-ship missiles. This aircraft is specifically designed to replace the Pakistani Air Force "Phantom III/5" fighter. In sum, the Pakistan Airways Association intends to replace 190 fighter jets by 2020, including all Chengdu-built F-7 fighter jets and Dassault Systèmes-made Mirage III/5 fighters.
