PAF initiated a need of 28 billion$ that's a neat sum, that would have bought a lot of stuff.

A non Chinese 5th gen can only mean F-35, right? Since F-22 and PAKFA are not going to be offered to Pakistan? Was Pakistan seriously considering the F-35, or another 5th gen? Wouldn't that be beyond PAF's means in all likelihood, since PAF does not even operate twin engine jets?

IMO, the ideal scenario for PAF would be to have the entire air force comprise of Gripen-NG like fighters, and a few AEWACs, tankers and other such force multipliers. That would completely fulfill their mandate.

Or, if that is too expensive, a fleet comprised of JF-17s and F-16s only can also be tremendously useful, and formidable against most threats. After all, the PAF is not expected to match the IAF in a prolonged war of attrition, nor does it need to.

That is the normal budget of the military which involves the army, airforce and navy. And the army gets the main chunk. The navy gets a few scraps and the remaining goes to the PAF. Not much to do with.

PAF needs to be strong. The enemy is watching us and calculating its next move.

This modernization project was started by Musharraf especially for the PAF and it had a special allocation which the PAF was getting till 2007, but it was halted by Mr. 10% and Co.

Anything to do with the Global Recession of 2007 by any chance and the fact Pakistani economy only grew by an average of 2.9% in the last 5 years?
