What do you guys think about PAF right now meaning what new aircrafts we need wich ones to still keep and update and what to buy in the near future as you all know we need it with our ageing fleet in all due respect. We have some options and also the funds right now so lets hear your ideas.

.
aoa,
i think paf should replace its f-7(all versions), mirage(all), a-5 with these aircraft :

150 jf-17
100 j-10
100 f-16
50 ef-2000
i think they r enough to keep india away till 2015-2017 then we may buy another batch of ef-2000 and any fifth gen f-22 or j-xx or Mig 1.44 fighter if available.

i also wanted to ask what r the chances of jf-17 getting an AESA radar and can a JF-17 with AESA radar beat indian mki.....? i also wanted to ask that can common ppl go to watch IDEAS 2006 in EXPO karachi if so then from where to get the pass??????

. .
Yes the JF-17 fighter is meant to be inexpensive with a /cost between
15 and 20 million dollars. It shall target building Asian and African markets
and countries in particular like Egypt, Sri Lanka, Algeria, Zimbabwe and
Burma

even if you order ALL these planes right NOW!, and i believe that jf-17 has been ordered. You wont be able to get the complete lot by 2015!!, so what about the rest whose orderes havnt even been signed.

i dont know how many F-16's Pakistan has?, but i believe its around 70ish(including the ones already ordered from the US recently)?

about the Typhoon, i dont think Pakistan can afford Typhoons!

JF-17 is what LCA was meant to be in this aspect:...a very low cost plane which could be exported to countries in Africa.
But the JF-17 in no way would be able to match even the Mirages. Its meant for a role, to fill the skies, to get quantity of planes.
about the 5th gen plane, US wont ever sell F-22 to Pakistan unless it has another top of the line plane alerady halfway in prduction, which is unlikely to be anywhere before 2030. US has already said, it expects the F-22 to be its top-of-the-line fighter for atleast 4-5 decades. US congress isnt even willing to send a bunch to Japan, which has US's all top tech and is like the biggest ally. Russia wont sell any sensitive technology to Pakistan.J-XX would be a good bet. Pakistan should offer help to China so that it can be done faster.

where u make ur baseless claims, JF-17 can take on Mirgae fighters, but not the rafels which is another story, u need to get ur facts right!

.
I wouldn't say all his claims are baseless. However I would think that it would be a bit silly for Pakistan to order a plane that would be useless against a Mirage.

I must say though that this fascination withthe Typhoon is humourous to me. It has been regarded as being close to obsolete by some experts here. (The usual problems with several countries being involved with a project)

I would stick to the jxx or similar projects for a future fighter program.

As for "Facts" about such things. "Facts" tend to be a nebulous thing on the internet. Unless you guys are in charge somewhere or are a pilot. I would say most tend to be educated guesses.

ol, kool

We are still one plane short for Deep-Strike missions. In the past the Mirage III/Vs played that role that too not in any realistic deep-strike sense of today.

I'm not counting your suggestions for the EF-2000, I've seen this plane come up more and more as a hopeful for induction. Has PAF ever seriously considered it, asked for it? The Mirage 2000-x would've been good, but I think the French just won't budge on their high price tags.

The next plane in line is just going to be the Super-J10 (whatever its right name is). The biggest thing I see PAF going for next are planes that carry TVC engines. So they are going to add thrust vectoring to JF-17 and the J-10 and these changes MAY be sooner than later since China has recently been hot on Russia's bum to provide them with the engines. I think it already got a shipment of the modified AL-31FN engines supporting the thrust vectoring and are asking the same be done to JF-17s RD-93.

The JF-17 is meant to fill the skies with numbers mate, exactly what the IAF wanted to do with LCA. The J-10 is there taking on the mirages and the Mig 29's keysersoze. JF-17 is for the older planes.I highly doubt their ability to match the Mirages and the Mig29K's. Like i said, their there for the numbers to overwhelm the opposition with numbers, to act as supporting combatants with say F-16's or J-10's leading the strike mission.Thats what they are meant to be. Lets not confuse ourselves.

The J-10 would indeed, going by the reports be able to match the Mig 29's and the Mirages. It is actually very weird to see that Pakistan is going for a plane like J-10 as its main top-notch fighter which wont be able to handle the Mig-35's that India will acquire or the Su-30MKI's. But there you have it.J-10 is gonna be PAF's main fighter with F-16's. As far as i see, the J-XX is gonna be PAF's REAL top tech fighter, but as of now thats a pipe dream.

.
the russian company has already stated that they would increase the performance of rd-93. i m not saying that all of the jf-17 should be equipped with AESA radar buth 50 of them equipped with AESA will do the job for pakistan that will add some 2-3 million per plane or atmost 5 million but the results will be great.
what do u ppl think?

.
RD-93 being supplied to Pakistan is based on improved RD-33K which powers the latest Mig-29, its good enough and doesn't need further improvement.

AESA, $ 5 million a piece is too costly for us and with AEW&CS coming I don't know why we should spoil that money.
In any netcentric war scenario AEW&CS would play the central role, not the radar or the individual pilots.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

AESAs are force multipliers. They can provide backup for AEW&Cs. AEW&CS cant be expected to cover whole Pakistani airspace 24/7, especially they wont be able to provide coverage for the deep penetration missions. AESA equipped aircrafts can take the workload off the AEW&CS during peace times hence save money by keeping wear and tear down on AEW&CS. AESA equipped aircrafts are also best suited to intercept and/or disable cruise missiles and stealthy aircrafts.

Most importantly, AESAs are fast developing into multifunction systems. Its antennas and systems can be used for ease dropping, cyber attacks, communications/radio relay, and as a non-kinetic weapon. It’s a huge leap in technology that we for sure can not afford to ignore.

AsSalam o Alaikum.
I think that the way the Chinese technology is advancing, it would not be very long that they would field an AESA radar.Perhaps 5 yrs from now we may well be looking at a chinese AESA Radar on the Thunder. I think the Selex deal will only go through if there is a delay in the chinese venture. However, i wonder what the value of Say 20-30 JF17s with Selex AESA radar would be to PAF.
As to the future, I feel there are a few variables here. Firstly, how US behaves towards Pakistan. If current cordial relations continue, i see no reason, why PAF would not buy more F16(new and old).It would be a cheap solution and keep the numbers up for PAF cheaply. Secondly the progress of J10 programme and PAFs happines and satisfaction with it. If J10 satisfies PAF, it may be that we only have more J10s and skip the F16s.
I think that the J10s, F16s and JF17s would be the only future acquisitions of PAF till 2015.
PAF will only consider a third option if something drastic happens to the F16s or/and J10s.
As to replacements, f7, A5 and Mirages 3s would go in that order.PAF would retain some Mirages (Rose2-3s)and PGs till Thunder comes out in big numbers.
That is my 2ps worth.
WaSalam
Araz

as far as i know (i.e i might be wrong) AWACS can only tell u that there is a plane in the territory and informs the fighter plans. but having an AESA u can see it as well as track in ur territories.
