What's new

PAF is in Qatar with JF-17s and Mushaks.

They already have placed orders for rafale(24 of those) which is quite superior to JFT,going for jf-17 won't make sense for such a small country,MFI-17 is what they would go for.

they might be considering to fund JFT for Yemen air force..post rebel fall!

The Rafales will replace the Mirage 2000s. The Qataris are looking at JF-17 as a replacement for Alphajet in fighter/ground attack role.

Or may be as trainers!

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) sent two of its indigenously-built JF-17 Thunder fighters, along with a pair of MFI-17 Super Mushshak military training aircraft on a promotional visit to Doha, Qatar, on 7 February.

Its arrival coincided with a two-day visit to the Emirate state by Pakistan's prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, and a high-powered delegation.

The PAF's week-long stay at Doha international airport culminated in a flying display of both types on 11 February in front of VIPs, which included Nawaz Sharif; Qatar prime minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani; Qatar Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, Major General (pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem; and the PAF Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman.

revolutionary characteristics including sophisticated avionics, DIGITAL FBW, supercruise ability, reduced radar cross section, IRST sensors, Thrust vectoring, improved maneuverability some of these things are necessary to be regarded as 4th generation.

don't you think it's time to review previous post

a 4th generation fighter are fighters like the F-16C/D,F/A-18, mirage 2000/05,F-14,SU-30,Mig 29, J-10A/B, JAS-39C/D, F-15C/D

Sir by these standards even these aircrafts are not 4th gen .... as they lack supercruise ability, reduced radar cross section, IRST sensors, Thrust vectoring plz elaborate in detail as requested previously ....

the JF-17 and F-20 are similar, in the sense that there smaller aircraft, with a basic design,
going by this logic .... all under mention aircraft are similar

but avionics wise there more comparable to a 4th generation fighter,

Sir either you are confused or trying to make me confuse deliberately on the one hand you said 'sophisticated avionics' being one such characteristics which make a jet 4th gen & 'JFT comparable to this standard' ...

but in the same sentence you also says

but they still lack allot of qualities as a true 4th generation fighter, once JF-17 has a better radar, employs IRST ability, has a full digital FBW system then you can regard it as true 4th generation fighter jet.

If JF-17 lacks in radar, don't have IRST nor having FBW .... how is it comparable to 4th gen jet .... 'avionics wise' ???

BTW Sir you mention Mig 29, J-10A/B, mirage 2000/05 earlier in this very same post as 4th gen jet, but a illiterate person like me wonder how these jets are 4th gen when these jet also does not employ IRST 'better RADAR' MiG-29 even lacks FBW (other than MiG-29K version) ....

the concept of the JF-17 is a mideum tech fighter jet designed to be at an affordable price, redesigning it kills its original purpose.

What in Fighter Jet Aviation Industry is considered as Medium Tech & what is consider High Tech ...... ???

you are using so many jargons & making things difficult to understand .... plz explain in layman terms

what make JF-17 a 3.5 gen jet & what make J-10 A/B, MiG-29, mirage 2000/05 a 4th gen jet .... ???

JF-17 program, economy and foreign policy.

Regarding the JF-17 program, PAF should increase the local production of its components to a hundred percent minus the engine. After that it should come up with a JF-17 NG along with indigenous munitions.

This JF-17 NG is essential to PAF's dream of self-reliance. It should be a match for any 4.5 Gen fighter.
Asalam O Alikum

Why not get Engine tech too if we can get it. WS13/17 should be good investment.

Jazak ALLAH :)

Duaaon mai yaad rakha karain,Sir.

Fighters

FC-1 Tandem Fighter Trainer

The FC-1 Tandem Fighter Trainer has all-weather operational capabilities equivalent to that of the FC-1 Multi-role Light Fighter. It can carry BVR air-to-air missiles, short-range air-to-air missiles for air combat, air-to-surface missiles, air-to-ship missiles, precision-guided bombs and conventional bombs for air-to-surface and air-to-sea attack. It can also be used for instructional training on basic flight skills and flight tactics.

Length - 14.264m
Height - 4.598m
Wing Span - 9.465m

PAF has just established overhauling capability for RD 93. IT means it is going to continue for a long time with the same engine. Switching over to a new untested engine is fraught with difficulties and frankly PAF will not shift without it being assured òf the newer engine's reliability. China on the other hand will continue to market FC1 with WS series engine if it can.

It's called photoshop. A comparatively new phenomenon which aims to deceive viewer by changinging a picture through digital means also known as computer programs. Very popular these days.

When did i say the pic is real :D :D but JF-17 Dual seat will come out this year for sure :P

Waalaikumussalam

We cannot.

Manufacturers of turbojets (with outputs large enough for fighters) are only a handful. These manufacturers are thriving companies who have no reason for selling their technology and creating competitors.

So no, You cannot buy turbofan technology.

You have a valid point but

There are handful countries which are making Fighter-jets.
There are handful countries which are making drones.
There are handful countries which are making Tanks.
There are handful countries which are making Missiles.
There are handful countries which are making Submarines.
There are handful countries which are making Frigates.
There are handful countries which are making Nukes.

So i think we are capable enough to join in that Handful Club of Jet-Engine Country as we have history of joining in Handful club. Jet-Engine Technology is not out of the world and i don't think that it is that difficult people seems to make it. There are enough geeks in our country but no body is serious enough or else no body let them to get them together and do some good thing for their country.

Pakistan can also be one of the handful countries which can offer U S Air Force an advance pilot Training aircraft based on JF-17 block I with GE 404 Engine and whatever American Radar they choose,in competition with Lockheed offer of T50?.
