What's new

PAF intends to upgrade all JF-17 with AESA radar including older blocks.

Pakistan won't throw existing engines in junkyard unless they are incompatible or their lifetime is over. New models (150+ more expected) will have new engines and AESA radars unless there is some problem

At some time PAF had desire to have hi lo mix of JFTs and it seem they are going that way if all jets are not upgraded with AESA radar.

I doubt KSA will go for a Dedicated Naval Arm unless they have a Potent Navy to back it up .. they need Subs , Frigates , DDG's and Corvette foremost ..
and US lobby is very strong in KSA defense sector and if they want they can force push their F-18's down to the throats of Saudi's ..
These are rumors, but they want some dedicated naval arm, they have two "battle groups" and they are making a third..
They have very potent Frigates and Ships but I do agree with you that they need subs instead of relying on anti-sub warfare as for the US to force the F-18 or anything else on KSA that remains to be seen ..unless it comes with some ToT (new Saudi arms purchase policy)

What is Rumor ? i did not Mentioned anything that can be a Rumor , but just Opinion with respect to Topic .
and KSA has weak navy that is a bitter truth , Their Air Force i think is one of the best in ME with some State of Art Fighters like F-15SE and Typhoons ..
and for having a Good Sub , One of PN Augusta 70 Station in KSA and i think its permanent Station , cant confirm it but i read about it ..
they need a Proper Fleet of Frigates + DDG + FAC + Sub ... their Air force in its current Position can tackle anything Iran can throw at them ..

but lets not go Off-topic .

Pakistan should consider the option of working with Turkey on this to reduce costs and make it indigenous. Aselsan is developing a new AESA radar for the TFX and for upgrading the radar on older Turkish F-16s. Why not join forces?

As per their requirements they do not need DDGs, they are getting a special edition of the LCS Freedom with SM-x
Spanish new corvettes and eying some French naval tech also.. so they might just need some dedicated naval air power.. I am not sure about it, Hellies of all sorts yes but F-18s I've heard the rumors.. so it was not about your post..

OT:
The JF-17 Blk 3 can play a significant role on both sides of the Arabian sea..

Pappy,

You are going to give some people the heart attack with this information overload---.

The simplicity of transition is going to kill them. They forgot that the JF17 was a modular design from the begining---.

Here we have an example:

PAF should updgrade aesa radar on block 1 first as block three will take time to produce and it must come with AESA.

Block 2 radar is better than block 1 so first we should adrress Block 1 than after should go for block 2 upgrade

Hi,

A 1000 T/R module Aesa radar for the JF 17 is definitely a great achievement by the chinese manufacturer and being successful in keeping control over the heat issues is the sound of the victory bell.

But not all aesa radars are created equal---even though they may have the same number of T/R modules----. The technology used in a T/R module sets them apart---.

What would be interesting to see is that how fast the chinese T/R module cycles thru each phase as compared to an american built T/R module---did I use the right term?

It's funny and my apologies in advance if this is off topic but the reality is ,in the end the bitter truth is Pakistan is going to bail out Middle East ,GCC either thru professionals or thru weapons made in Pakistan .I have mentioned this again and again we can easily sale as many JF17 as we are planning to induct if we play our cards properly and let professional s do their job.

Are you talking about the Frequency Scan Arrays?

.
Constrained feed arrays architecture was evolved around mid-90's. It is the standard pretty much with all active array radars incld. chinese and russian origin. The chinese are at parity with western sources. Space-feed array architecture has fallen into disrepute for several reasons, beyond the scope of this forum.
