While I don’t agree with the “greatest airchief” since the PAF has great chiefs in the past. At the end the retd ACM still led the PAF through what was a time where all out conflict was almost a few minutes away and kept the enemy deterred.

That really is all it is to the enemy as a message - sure, you may win but we’ll take you down with us.. and you have a lot, LOT more to lose and your fear of loss is much more than Pakistan’s.

Should've used the JF's for the escort. The pride unfortunately still remains the F-16 after all this time.

Kabhi kabar toh lagta hai bas inn 18 F-16 Block 52 nay akelay hee pooray baraysageer mein dehshat pehlai hui hai

If you knew what they were equipped with and its effectiveness , until the Rafale they were the most advanced survivable fighter in the subcontinent.

To me Nur khan will always be on top.
MAK continued with the Sohail aman's plan of 5 gen replacement for viper.

It all depends on perspective - senior officers of the time will cite AM Nur Khan initial disorientation in the conflict since he just took over after being with PIA for the longest.

It doesn’t always reflect on wartime accomplishments either - many officers make long lasting impacts on PAF thought and progressive thinking culture but since no shots were fired they are forgotten to all but outside of PAF.

Here is another quagmire - Adm Mansour ul Haq of PN missile corruption fame also made very positive impacts on personnel reform which benefit the PN to this day .. what do you remember then?

Noor Khan laid the solid foundation without which PAF might not be what it is now and fortunately a vast majority of the Airchiefs were very competent and clear-headed regarding PAF's war-fighting doctrine, organizational growth, and transformation of the institute with the changing times/technology and needs.
Since my younger days, I only recall one Airchief (in my opinion) that did not look the part.
