What's new

PAF All Combat Squadrons and their air crafts

Navy camt afford either ..everything has been on credit
PAF is paying much more on previous loans and new credit..navy procurement is trivial compared to that
A single sq of JF-17 costs more than a destroyer

No a bright idea
Instead 4-5 typhoons better to get another 100 block3
100 Block 3 can fetch way more than 4-5 typhoons. The capabilities that 36-40 Typhoon bring to PAF, no other aircraft (F-16/JF-17/Mirage 3/5) can match that.

An issue could be USA clearance due to MID's in EF2000.

36 typhoons will cost 8-9 billion dollars of foteign exchange

Assuming block 3 flyaway cost is at 30 million and sale price around 40 million Pakistan can produce 250 block 3 for cost of 36 typhoon (and saving a half of foreign exchange) which will be sitting in park once Germany decides they dont like us

Not Germans, the Americans.
250 Block III sold off yes will be another achievement however At some stage PAF will be getting funds to buy new aircrafts. KSA could play a role in creating a funding line and pacifying Americans.

Germans get bitchy faster than americans ..look what happened to Egypt and saudis on rafale /typhoons

Instead of using KSA to help purchase a Euro fighter, why not have them invest and become partners in project AZM instead. Win-win

If we are serious about retiring F7 PG we need J10B as a replacement China makes them in numbers

The four F7PG squadrons should be replaced in next 1-2 years

It will take a long duration before anything is materialized. The requirement of a new plan is current.

Yes the cost is real, but remember, it's over a 5-10 year period to sustain the upfront purchasing cost and 20-25 years for maintenance and support. So the $8-9 billion in hard-currency costs won't be felt quickly or painfully, but over a long period of time.

That said, one way to lower the hard-currency loss is to request an offset with the deal, e.g., ask the UK, Germany, Spain, and Italy to buy $2-3 billion in goods from Pakistan atop of whatever Pakistan's exporting to them today.

Still too high even for accounting for all the above
With even a small mosquito bite some where a sanction will happen

I doubt the above has 25 years cycle maintenance cost. For india it was 5 years only. The arab deals i think has all and are at higher price tag

Sadly planes like Euro Fighter or Rafale are just way out of purchasing reach
J10B is functionally capable armed with Long Distance BVR missiles

Conversion to J10B gives
  • BVR
  • Delta Wing
  • Thrust Vector Enabled craft (Airforce will experience some new challenges)
  • New Avionics
  • New Engine
  • More hard points
These upgrade alone are great improvements over the F7PG fleet with out bankrupting the whole airforce budget

iDEAL choice for PAF as a Second Option
For Price + Capability we are still getting a decent plane for the Price
Extended range is not as important as our focus is our own Border areas and we are not doing extended flights

A better outlook till Project Azm Matures , and Block III thunders show up

Induct J10B , take some load of the F16 C/D , keep it fresh
and then focus on JF17 Block III and Azm to finalize

Why not J-10C?
China has stopped the production of J-10B, the total number of which is about 50.

. . .
Perhaps PAF airforce is more keen to focus on the Azm Project but lets see I do see China owning two planes would in small numbers could serve PAF well

J10C is , from armnament and technology prespective is advance plane compared to F7PG

Also JH-7 would be a great short term aquisition
