Pakistan has bought two new SIGINT aircrafts (variant of King Air 350).

King Air 350 Pilot Training (Pakistan)

1.1. Training and technology transfer is required by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in support of their Hawker Beechcraft King Air 350 ISR aircraft. Proposed training will be Contractor, Type 1 Special Training, procured by the Air Education and Training Command and presented under the auspices of the Security Assistance Training Program. All instruction and technical information shall be in the English language.

1.2. Contractor shall provide training to approximately six (6) PAF Officers between June-July 2010 at specified contractor locations in CONUS in accordance with (IAW) objectives to provide necessary skills to PAF aircrew personnel to support their flying mission. Training shall be based on standard off-the-shelf commercial configured King Air 350 (Proline 21 cockpit). Contractor-provided training will be initial type training to include pilot enrichment courses.

Their site states that:

Surveillance: The King Air 350ER, offers over nine hours of endurance, performing overland surveillance, with sufficient payload to operate a moving target indicator, synthetic aperture radar, EO/IR (FLIR), streaming imagery data link, self-protection systems, and a wide variety of high performance communication systems.

Any confirmation on which version of the King Air 350 Pakistan will be obtaining?

The Pakistan Government purchased two specially modified King Air 350 aircraft under FMS case G2-D-SAH and pilot training is being purchased through AETC CONS/LGCI. The Pakistan Air Force would like all pilots to receive the same training, to include a level "D" full motion simulator equipped with the Proline 21 avionics package. An extensive internet search resulted in three (3) companies that currently operate a level "D" full motion King Air 350 simulator: FlyRight Inc. located in Concord, North Carolina, CAE in Dallas, Texas, and FlightSafety in Wichita, Kansas. Only FlightSafety's Level "D" simulator is equipped with the Proline 21 avionics package.

Gents, look up MC-12W for more information on the capabilities of these aircraft. The purpose of these aircraft is more than just signal intelligence. It is a tactical platform for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (or Recce in homeside lingo).

The primary benefit of this aircraft will be to the Army troops and commanders on the ground. This aircraft can actually provide very high resolution mapping of the area of interest and can also be flown in support of military convoys to keep them protected from ambushes and IED type threats by flying the aircraft over the route or over the area of interest for long times.

This is an amazing capability to be had by the PAF. Certainly will go a long way in optimizing the gathered intelligence and putting it in front of the Army commanders in a manner that is of use to them in a very timely fashion.

"As the signals operator, my job is to locate high value individuals and coordinate with the sensor operator to put the intel together," said Senior Airman Candise Woods, a 362nd ERS signals intel operator. "We are able to provide an angle of intel that other forces can't provide. We are providing real-time information to the ground forces."

Junior ranking Airmen in the MC-12 program have a lot of responsibility for this mission.

"Our junior Airmen are constantly in situations where they (must) give correct info in a matter of seconds," said Lt. Col. Phillip Stewart, the 362nd ERS commander. "Their decisions could mean the difference between life and death to the Soldier, Marine or Airmen on the ground. In a split second they have to be able to decide if the guy they are looking at is holding a shovel or a rifle and then transmit it to the ground. They perform under this pressure exceptionally well."

Why not Army Aviation take delivery of these, Army is already operating a number of turboprops like Y-12, Jet Propcommander, King Air B200 and 350 (ISI). under Army, it will make liaison and coordination much easy then being on interservices basis.

Well u never know army aviation also has fixed winged air crafts and if the jet will be used to help PA.Then surely it will be delivered to army aviation corps........

Maybe because at least currently, all of our ISR capability is hosted by the PAF. Beyond the CI campaign, it would be the PAF which would continue to employ this capability in support of the Army. Although your point is a valid one, all I can say is that maybe in the future, the Army will acquire similar capabilities but I hope that is not the case until there really is a need felt by the ground commanders.

Technically speaking, the PAF would have much greater capability than the Army when it comes to ISR overall. This will remain the case in the future owing to PAF's considerable efforts to tie various capabilities like AEW, UAVs, ELINT/ESM and ISR platforms together. Hopefully, if there is anything we have learnt during the ongoing CI campaign is the benefit of "Jointness" instead of buying one type of capability for each service.
