this naval forces are all useless, it would be much better for china to invest into eurasian infrastructure so all asian parts and europe can be connected with each other. why should china import oil from the persian gulf that is guarded by the US instead having pipelines from russia and iran?

I'm sure China are investing in connecting up key areas of Asia and Europe but a powerful navy is very important not just to safeguard its oil supply. If US decided to blockade China's shipping lanes, then trade, oil supply and access to raw materials will be impeded. This is a risk no expanding power can afford to take. Building a large navy and support systems that would make it extremely costly for the US and her Allies to enact a blockade is absolutely essential for China's continued growth. Of course it's intimidating for smaller neighbouring countries but it's just something they will have to deal with.
