Owen Wilson on getting serious for new film 'No Escape'

that is true. I even saw an American documentary portraying the Spanish Conquistadors in a good light forgetting to mention the countless natives were raped by them. The doc was clearly brainwashing history.

First of all, you cannot "Brainwash" history, I believe the word you are looking for is "Whitewash"

Second of all, how all this have to do with this Owen Wilson movie??

If you saw the movie, you have some comment in it, fine, fire away. But if your sole purpose is to discuss something else, there are more than enough American bashing thread out there, please join them and get away from this thread. Consider this the first and final warning, all off topic comment from now on will be report to moderator. THey may hand out infraction, they may not.

Any thread related to Indians, Vietnamese, Filipinos and Americans will only end up being derailed due to race-bashing comments, mostly by the Chinese members here in PDF.

I am also now disgusted at some comments of a certain person here - he speaks that he is fond of my country, yet he supports the actions of China that is clearly a threat to my country. That, is hypocrisy.

I am even pretty sure he now views Filipinos that are pro-American or at least have positive view of America as "enemies of Asia."

Eehhh this doesn’t even answer my question of how was the Vietnamese portrayed as savage in the movie. LOL

Answer me again, how did the movie portrayed the Vietnamese as being savage when it was the Vietnamese soldiers who were shown to be the sympathetic ones that saved the family at the end?

And in case the audience don’t know their ethnicity, the white family clearly said they are Viet, the soldiers identified themselves as Viet, and there’s even a banner underneath them that said “VIETNAM” LOL. So how did the movie portrayed the Vietnamese as savage again? Are you telling me that with all those signs, you still cant tell if they are Vietnamese? Have I overestimated your intelligence? LOL

If you have made a silly statement because you haven’t seen the movie, then just admit it, no need to beat around the bush. LOL
Yesssss you score some brownie point in this movie. I suppose Hollywood is tire of portraying the Vietnamese jungle and start to focus on the savage of the city folks from your cousin, Cambodian. LOL

. .
Asians are not all portrayed the same in Hollywood movies.

On the contrary, Hollywood's portrayal of China is quite favorable in recent years, mostly because they want to pander to the large Chinese market. Although I believe China's meteoric rise on the world stage and expanding technological capabilities also have something to do with it.

In 2015's The Martian, the China National Space Administration offers NASA a classified booster that can carry a payload to Mars after the American rocket explodes during liftoff in order to save Matt Damon.

In 2013's Gravity, the entire plot is about Sandra Bullock trying to reach a Chinese space station in order to board a Chinese module to return safely to Earth.

It wasn't always like this. In 1998's Armageddon, the Russians were the ones recruited to help redirect the asteroid headed towards Earth. China wasn't involved with the international effort at all. There was this one scene in which Shanghai (depicted as a third world area) was destroyed by a meteor shower. That was the end of China's involvement in the movie.

15 years makes a big difference.

On a side note, I honestly don't care how Hollywood chooses to depict Southeast Asians.

Did you cheer for the Asian jokes during the Oscars too?

No I never cheer for such things, but I don’t cry either whenever someone make some Asian jokes.

No, I couldn’t care less about some brownie points from hollywood.

The point was that you’ve made some statements about the movie and the OP that was contrary to what went on in the movie, which proved that you’re just going around making some random statements without thinking or seeing the movie beforehand.

Like what @Nihonjin1051 said, some people are just confrontational, who likes to go around starting fights and arguments. And you’re basically doing just that in this thread. I’ve innocently fallen into your Chinese trap and now this thread is ruined. :(

Go watch Christian Bale's Rescue Dawn and tell me you are not tire of the jungle theme.

As far as you scoring a brownie point, I must admit this time the Vietnamese is getting the better treatment in this film. Bravo! LOL Have I seen this movie? No but I watch a little and read enough the review to understand the theme without even seeing it. It is the same old trick, if not xenophobic, then it's about stereotypical 3rd world jungle.

Why do you still insist on continuing to argue and pick fights in this thread? I am not in the mood to do that. It is clear to see that Chinese members here get a more special treatment in this section and that is why a lot of your compatriots keep going around trolling and starting fights as though you have impunity (well it looks like you guys really do have that here). I do not have that luxury and my posts will get deleted, or worse, warned and banned, even if I don’t troll or insult. But thank G-D I am not the confrontational type that likes to randomly insult other people without any provocation, like a lot of your compatriots.

As I said, I do not care about brownie points from hollywood nor do I have an insecure heart that breaks whenever hollywood portray SEA in a certain way. My point was that you have made some confrontational statement about the OP and movie that is contrary to the facts. I think posting your first post and your last previous post will prove my point:

What a joke and you sit here telling the Vietnamese to love being portray as savage? LOL
and from your previous post:

That is all I need to say. And I don’t need to talk further on this issue as I don’t see any point in doing so other than to fall into a chinese flamebait trap.

How am I trying to pick a fight in this thread? I am simply stating an obvious acknowledgement in Hollywood stereotype of Southeast Asia. I simply warn people of the danger in thinking this movie is meant to portray Southeast Asia in a good light. In fact, you are the one who seem very happy to score a brownie point due to the fact this film contains a small scene of Vietnamese saving a family in the end and I even congrats you for that. LOL

Speaking of special treatments, do you know how many times I got warn, infraction, and ban for simply speaking against the Vietnamese? In fact, I even got a warning today! LOL So stop whining about special treatment for Chinese. There is none to speak of. My posts got deleted all the times and I never complain about it.

If you want me to provide you the reviews of this movies and the theme is definitely hurting Southeast Asia image, please do let me know.
