They can be very bad losers, especially when beaten by smaller countries. When China loses sport matches against such there can be ugly riots. I recall one occasion in the 1980s when the police lost it and joined the protesters, smashing cars in an anti-foreigner binge after China's soccer team lost to Saudi Arabia.

The Tribunal states that China thought it was acting in good faith so China's diplomats and leaders may have misunderstood just what deep doo-doo they were in.
