The Indian government has long ignored agriculture, with such consequences.
If the Indian government had tried its best to modernize agriculture, perhaps there won't be so many farmers committed suicide.
I hope the China Agricultural Association can provide some assistance projects to Indian farmers, just like in Africa.
Agriculture can't contribute much to GDP, but many people do it for living. If India government still ignores it, farmers, who make up half of India's population, will live in pain for long time, and there is no hope of getting rid of it.

UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's agricultural foreign assistance projects have resulted in increased food production and income for smallholder farmers in Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique, according to a case study revealed on Monday.
In its first visit to the UN New York headquarters, the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) joined the Chinese Permanent Mission to the UN and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to display the results of China's partnership with Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique on agricultural development.
The two programs with both African countries linked local farmers and officials with Chinese knowledge, technology, and market-inclusive systems to boost food production, said the study.
The study assessed the two partnerships, the Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project in Guinea-Bissau and the Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center in Mozambique, as examples of what South-South collaboration can achieve.
"UNDP welcomes these joint assessments, which illustrate China's commitment to partnerships that support the achievement of national development goals and the aspirations of Africa's Agenda 2063 and 2030 Agenda," said Ahunna Eziakonwa, UNDP assistant administrator and regional director for Africa.
"We welcome the technology, expertise and financial investments of China as we work together to advance our national development plans," said Ambassador Antonio Gumende, permanent representative of the Mission of the Republic of Mozambique to the United Nations.
Speaking at the event, Deng Boqing, vice chairperson of CIDCA, said that promoting agricultural and rural development and poverty eradication in developing countries, especially in Africa, has always been a priority of China's foreign aid.

As for the Indian government itself, in addition to increasing funding for agriculture-related research, it also has to provide some assistance to farmers. An article on the current situation of agriculture in China
