Over 11 thousand foreigners arrested during last five years

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP): Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior A. Rehman Malik Thursday told the Upper House of the Parliament that 11,111 foreigners were arrested during last five years on various charges. Replying to a question of Muhammad Talha Mahmood during question hour he said 8,830 were arrested from NWFP, 1,369 from Sindh, 829 from Punjab and 83 from Balochistan.

However, he did not mention the charges on which these foreigners were arrested. Malik said the activities of all foreigners are monitored.

Regarding suicide attack at Marriott Hotel, the Advisor said the linkage with terrorist network has been identified, while the law enforcement agencies have also recovered the vehicle used for escorting the suicidal truck.

He further told that four accused have been arrested while three are still at large. The challan against the arrested accused has been filed in the trial court, he added.

Replying to a question of Dr. Khalid Mehmood Soomro, Malik said there are seven paramilitary forces in the country including Frontier Corps (NWFP),Frontier Corps (Balochistan), Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), Pakistan Rangers (Punjab), Pakistan Coast Guards, Northern Area Scouts and Frontier Constabulary NWFP.

Malik informed the House that 19,184 different posts are lying vacant in Pakistan Rangers (Punjab), 2,901 in Rangers Sindh, 1,850 in Frontier Constabulary NWFP, 7,923 in Frontier Corps in NWFP, 473 in Pakistan Coast Guards, one in Northern Area Scouts and 402 posts of janitors are lying vacant in Frontier Corps Balochistan.

He informed the House that there is no quota fixed for the people of Balochistan in Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan, while on contrary the enrolment in FC NWFP is carried out purely from tribes residing in NWFP, FATA and Mianwali only.

Malik said, he has taken up the matter with Prime Minister for recruitment of people of Balochistan in FC Balochistan on the pattern of FC NWFP.

He further said that literacy rate in Balochistan is low therefore the required educational qualification for recruitment in FC Balochistan would also be reduced for the people of the province.

To another question, Malik informed the House that as many as 3,016 people were kidnapped for ransom during last 10 years (January 1999 to September 2008). Out of these 198 people were killed by kidnappers, while the police succeeded in recovering 2,666 persons from kidnappers, he added.

Police arrested 4,421 persons on charge of kidnapping for ransom during the

same period, besides, 1,687 cases were challaned in the courts.

Where are these foreign terrorists coming from and where's the security in our borders.

.
More importantly, why there is no firm news on the arrests? where are they kept? who are they? where are the names, photos, the charges etc. etc.? Is it another 'dirt throwing' in our eyes?

I don't trust Malik a single bit. He is an unelected, unqualified man running the show. He have changed his statements so many times, that Madonna hadn't change her hair color. He constantly lied on several occassions, made up stories and backed up from his claims. His affiliations with US rings bells in my ears. He is trying to create a case for United States to occupy FATA on the name of foreigner militants. As Pentagon said, "we just want to occupy FATA".

As you rightly asked Omar, where are these people coming from? There's no teleporting. They are either mobilised by United States and sent across the border, which is heavily controlled by ISAF in Afghanistan, or they came through Pakistani ports, or it's just a plain lie of the government to cover up their failures.

they are mostly coming from afghanistan and uzbekistan
correct me if im wrong but that's where most of the taliban fighters are coming from too

.
Well not really from Uzbekistan. Those Uzbek fighters left the area long ago. The Uzbeks and Tajiks that we see fighting along the other militants are from Afghansitan. Like Afghansitan does have a large minority of Uzbeks and Tajiks (who have nothing to do with Uzbekistan or Tajikistan).

And for sure they are coming from Afghanistan, but how do they get to cross the border. I mean it's not one or two or 10 or 12. Malik saab is claiming in thousands here. And since 2001, there had been an extremely strong surveilance of border going on (may not be from Pakistan side, but deffinately from Afghanistan side). ISAF and US forces, both, are shooting anything in sight crossing the border.

I know some tunnels dug between the two countries by PA back in 80s to transfer weapons and other supplies to Mujahideen, but I am sure PA would know about those tunnels and must have controlled/destroyed it, and I can't think of these fighters using those tunnels to cross the border.

This is a large number of fighters Malik saab talking about. Could he be exaggerating just like he had always been? or had he been capturing Afghan refugees (to show some progress)? Or the borders are not controlled as ISAF claims and letting these miscreants (deliberaely) into Pakistan to create anarchy? (This sound more factual to me).

Anyone?
