In 1947-48 Kashmir war, Bhimbar, Baghsar & Mirpur were captured by Pakistan Army, eliminating Indian threat to Jhelum & Mangla Headworks.

In this operation 11 Cavalry's armoured cars conducted a bold action under Captain Nawaz, forcing Dogra soldiers to flee from the battlefield.

Pakistan's Azad Kashmir Regiment has the singular honour of having two female Sitara-i-Jurats, awarded for their bravery during 1947-48 Kashmir war.

He won the Military Cross while commanding the 9/12ᵗʰ FFR at Burma in 1945, and the Hilal-e-Jurat for leading an assault by Azad troops and tribesmen during the Siege of Poonch in March 1948.

The 26ᵗʰ Cavalry, operating antiquated Shermans, loses two officers, Captain Naqeebullah Bangash and Captain Syed Hassan Zaheer at Point 994 and Jhanda Post respectively, during the Battle of Chhamb.

Both were awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat.
 
Sowar Ismail Khan, gunner in Bangash's tank, who knocked out two enemy tanks before his Sherman was engulfed in flames.
He was awarded the Tamgha-e-Jurat posthumously.
