Ottomans in World War 1

You also had Austro-Hungarian troops that fought in the Middle East in WW1 could this have included some Bosniaks??

I doubbt it. Our troops were mostly stationed on the fronts with Serbia and Italy from the slovenian border to the Alpes. There is a passage in the Alpes on italian side which locals call passo Bosniako ( passage of Bosniaks ).. major frontline high in the Alps, which italians never broke. Most decoreted Austro-Hungarian regiment in WWI was 2nd Bosnian regiment. There is a museum in Gratz dediceted to Bosniak soldiers in WWI. then Austrians had problems recruiting Bosniaks at the begining, there were riots, they didnt want to fight under non muslim king. So Austrians turned to the Sultan, then fetwa was issued that its permisible cause Ottoman EMpire was an ally of KuK. Many also left to Ottoman teritory to join its army. Also, special outh was crafted, reffering to Muhamed a.s. and Allah. And we wore differente uniforms, with Fezzez.

I do know of Bosniaks who later fought in Plaestine, mostly veterans of WW1.

Italian front is a very underrated front. Too bad when it comes to ww1 the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian war efforts are overlooked.

At school we barely learnt ww1 it was basically gallipoli and the western front thats about it. In Australia we looked at the contribution of Australia in both wars. Lets be honest Australias contribution does not even come close to many nations.

Yeah, condition were brutal. I mean, you are fighting high in fricking Alpes.

Under communism we learned nothing about this. About Bosniak regiments, role. It was mostly history from the other, Serbian-Croat side. In Slovenia, on the border with Italy, close to former frontline there is now museum to fallen Bosniak soldiers in WW1. Near the cemetary. Just few year ago, amost after a century, they removed the cross tumbstones and replaced them with muslim ones, with names. And they restored the mosque where they prayed. What allways cracks me up, according to many testimonies from austrian and german sources favorite weapon of Bosniaks was buzdogan. There are few on display in that small town museum

15700 Bosniaks fought at Canakkale. And at that time we were under Austro-Hungarian Rule

From my visit last year.

From the book 'Myth in the Desert, or Not the Great Arab Revolt' higly recommend this book.

Among arab-ottoman officers, only one, defected by his own will and joined the revolt. Forgot his name. All others 'joined' while in british prisoner camps under durres.

Late 1800's USA was discovering oil and roads were being built. The discovery of oil fields in USA , really fast tracked America back in 1800's

Rest of world was playing catch up
1857 , Muslims / Hindus had their war of independence fail vs East Indian Company

France was colonizing Northern Africa

Turkey was .... loosing revenue due to constant wars

Just before turn of century , Qaid -E Azam and Iqbal Poet were born

Around 1900 , US was in love with tall buildings

Good video he missed few points

One reason why Ottoman fell behind the European countries is that they failed to industrialise and never brought mechanisation to the vast areas of fertile Anatolia

If they started around 1860s like Japan by 1915 they could have been in a better position

I heard that the Sultan brought in a British engineer to modernize Turkey,
but when the Sultan found out that his engine would do
2000 Revolutions Per Minute the engineer was thrown out.

Ottomans were late to the Industrial Revolution due to numerous factors.

Japan had it easy because they did not have to worry about wars or the rise nationalism contributing to independance movements their only problem was internal which they easily solved.

Ottomans and their road to industrialisation was plagued with so many problems.

While Britain, France and Germany were going full straight ahead.

Only good thing about the Ottoman army was Atatürk.

So you are going to forget Fahrettin Pasha, Kazim Karabekir, Nuri Pasha, Halil Kut Pasha, Sakalli Nurettin Pasha and many other figures??

Many other figures that deserve to have their stories looked into rather than being ignored.

If Sultan Abdul Hamit were in power, most probably he’d have avoided this war among the great powers!!! And, he would have safe guarded the Ottoman interest in the best possible way playing real politik to the extreme!!! Hence, he was taken out in a coup by the zionists!!!! And, the rest is history!!!

90% of the intelligence lie within the head of the Sultan Abdul Hamid, the rest of us share the remaining 10% - Count Von Bismark

Interestingly, Jinnah must have studied the Ottoman mistakes in WW1 seriously!!! Hence, during WW2, when he had the choice, he went for the winning side saying, “a known enemy is better than an unknown friend”!!! And, he could manage the British to keep 80% of their promises!!! Usually, it’s <20%....
