It's going to be super interesting to see what "story" the Pakistani establishment comes up with - I use "story" because I don't expect anything as complicated and deep as a "narrative" -- Basically it's going to be pleading and I think you'll find that the Pakistanis will be pushing the "we're incompetent" line -- and the US of course will be pushing the "they didn't know, so don't cut off their money, but we'll give them a little less"
After a while, it wil become clearer that Pakistani authorities have no intention of playing US lab dog, then the gloves will come off, the Indians will have unfriendly noises and gestures, "Some Army types" will suggest the civilians need to chill out where their off shore bank accounts are, the US will and "coalition" types will point out what happened to Mubaraak and Ghaddafi's bank accounts
And then the Chinese will issue a statement of support - Pakistan will drown in deeper in a sea of extremist fantasies ---
Really, if the Army and the ISI are incompetent, why are they needed? And if they are required, clearly a "competent" Fauj and ISI are very different from the one we have now - right??
So, yeah, interesting times ahead - my best guess, the US can basically get whatever it wants from this Fauj, while the iron is hot, so to speak.
