Wait a minute. The U.S. not only didn't mention that they were going to raid an HVT, they didn't tell the Pakistanis where it was. If the U.S. felt that the Pakistanis could spoil things, then the U.S. must believe that the ISI had some form of communication with Bin Laden - even though there were no phone or internet connections and OBL refused to use cell or satphones. Which implies that such contact could only be made by runner, which means that the U.S. is convinced the ISI knew where Obama bin Laden was.

What kind of "reaction" did this ISI official have in mind, exactly? Suddenly it's not so far-fetched to realize why OBL is in a military town rather than the boonies, that way whenever the ISI wanted to warn him they could call the nearest officer-neighbor to bang on Osama's door...

You are misreading this.
The reaction which was expected of ISI/Army was to stop any foreign troops unless it was a jointly coordinated and sanctioned operation.
The reaction does not mean to protect OBL who was enemy number one for Pakistanis as well and whose death is a welcome news indeed.
However, as per assurance of our GOP/military to their people a timely reaction was indeed justified.
As per declared policy, no allied force is allowed to land boots on ground unless approved and coordinated beforehand.

Pakistan has no love lost for Al Qaeda, we have killed/captured hundreds of Al Qaeda and shared intelligence whenever we have had any leads regarding Al Qaeda.
We have lost thousands to these rascals who deserve hellfire eternal.

However an allied assault force cannot land in Pakistan and operate without approval, as per the declared policy.
US troops landed near Angoor Ada a few years back and there was a serious showdown with Pakistani troops due to such a policy being in place.
It is not conceivable how this particular episode in Abbottabad was not dealt with in a similar manner by Pakistan Army if they were not aware of any prior authorization.
Such ignorance regarding the ongoing operation defies the logical mind and makes people very critical of the GOP/military/ISI.

Regarding the courier, i think he was spotted by Pakistanis and intelligence was shared about his location.

No doubt this rascal needed to be dealt with and his death is welcome news not just for USA but for Pakistan as well as all other countries affected by his nefarious ideology.

Let us hope this helps in

1) Stranglehold on the extremists.
2) Assessment of current COIN effort and concrete steps to overcome
any deficiencies.
3) Increased coordination between all internal security agencies
including the police. Maybe a new cell with a security/intelligence
expert as its head needs to be coordinating the intelligence efforts
of a multitude of agencies and reporting to an action committee
which has both civilian and military presence.
4) Meaningful dialogue between Afghanistan, Pakistan and USA over
the future strategy with an open offer to all groups including Taliban
to come to the table instead of prolonging this engagement and war
of attrition.
5) Normalization of regional ties and increased cooperation between
the estranged countries by virtue of committed economic
partnership and agreements which benefit all parties.
