Only Indian troops withdrawing, Chinese troops continue to patrol area

I am really happy that it has resolved peacefully. Both countries showed maturity and their army as well. Remember, soldiers stood almost face to face but it was peaceful. There were news reports that soldiers who looked stressed, they were taken out from duty. IA did a good job and PLA as well.
Now my reading of the incident:
- India did great. We showed maturity in our communication and handling of situation. We acted like a responsible power. China on the other hand went in to rhetoric. Their foreign ministry needs better officials.
- We stood our ground. It is a win for us. We showed that if it is about our interest, we will not shy away from confronting China.
- Overall we gain by this incident

Lessons learnt and things to be careful about
- Don't let your guards down. But keep diplomacy stronger.
- Prepare, prepare and prepare for future armed conflicts. Two front war is a reality.
- India China should work out to find permanent solution of the border issues. Both countries should be open to give and take.
- for China - China has to be respectful of its neighbors (again talking about rhetoric). If it would not have been rhetoric, this issue would have been resolved in a month. Don't act like superpower, not yet.

Yeah, succeeds into retreating to status quo and giving up their dreams about that damn road!!Let that sink in.

And nowhere Chinese said they won'[t build a road. You withdraw without any public statement of such from China.

Let that sink in too. ;)

@Chinese-Dragon Is it true that china won't be working on road now? At least this is what Indians are saying in threads. Can you please post some official statement on agreement if there is any agreement to begin with?
There wont be...and there cant be...think about it...lets assume that it is India who ran away from standoff...do you think India and China can openly say that?? Now replace India with China in previous statement....the logic of not making it apparent will remain the same...no??

As said in previous statement...it seems we are back to status quo...

Sir, the status quo was that China was building the road so it will continue doing so but your compatriots are spinning it.

I agree to some extent and I have been stressing that point that India should de-escalate things and walk out of Dokhlam and that's what eventually has happened. But Indians are claiming it as a victory. All you did was to safe your ***... and nothing wrong in it as difficult decision needs to be taken in the national interest. But please don't spin it.
In the language of law, an agreement happens when there is meeting of minds with consideration. You think there was no consideration for Indian side ? Xi Jinping should thank India that we saved his face in front of other CCP members.

BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese military will remain vigilant and firmly defend national territory and sovereignty following a military stand-off between China and India, a military spokesperson said Monday.

"Peace and stability along China-India border concerns regional peace and stability and accords with the common interests of the two peoples," said Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense.

India has withdrawn its personnel and equipment from Dong Lang (Doklam) after the stand-off that lasted more than two months.

"We remind India to draw lessons from the stand-off, abide by established treaties and the basic principles of international law, and work together with China to safeguard peace and stability along the border and promote the healthy development of the two militaries," he said.

The spokesperson said that the Chinese military is confident and capable of safeguarding national sovereignty, safety and the interests of development. It is also confident and capable of making a bigger contribution to world peace.

I have been saying from the start. India needed it's secret weapon. 70 million Banglas. That is the crucial factor missing. Had India managed to get 70 million Banglas to surround the PLA units in they might have stood a chance. But alas this is not 1971. Banglas are too busy sewing shirts for the Western retail stores.

In this case it would be a WIN for India.

Hey, that is diplomacy part. Things are not said in Black and white. Both countries wanted to disengage.
India will not say that China will not build road. Similarly China will not say that they are going to continue with road.

India will not say that China will not build road. Similarly China will not say that they are going to continue with road.

But in the end China would do whatever they want to in their area since it belongs to them. No difficult diplomacy here.

It is very simple to understand. :)

In the language of law, an agreement happens when there is meeting of minds with consideration.

Remember that consideration must be sufficient but it doesn't need to be adequate.

Which is why extremely unbalanced contracts exist, like buying a house for $1. The law doesn't require that contracts give equal consideration to both sides.

We don't know what happened during the backdoor negotiations, so there is no reason to believe the consideration was big or small. It could have been literally anything.

The only thing we have to go on are the official statements, of which NEITHER side said anything about a road.

They never said they are building that road either!!You really think we would be fool enough to withdraw without meeting our objectives??Oh and they will be retreating to their earlier positions as well and the disputed area will be open to patrolling by all three parties just like before, so who won actually?? :)

But in the end China would do whatever they want to in their area since it belongs to them. No difficult diplomacy here.

That is what we are saying, it is not their area. It is a disputed area between Bhutan and China. 2012 agreement is to maintain status quo.

And we will do whatever we want as well, like digging up their roads and demolishing their infra with bulldozers every time they try to cook up trouble. :)

In the official statements from both China and India, neither side mentioned anything about a road.

Which means India is only depending on China's "good will" to stop building the road. Which, as we've seen with CPEC and the South China Sea, didn't turn out so well for them before.
The Chinese state makes direct regerance to "will exercise soveriegn rights". To me that is diplomatic code for we will do "what we want". In other words we will build the roads. What does "exercise soevreign rights" mean? It means do what you want to. If somebody places restrictions then that sovereign has been trammeled.

Yes you are correct. It's clear that Indian's have pulled back. Essentially we are at status quo ante. Chinese continue to patrol on their side. Extract below from Washington Times which will be pro New Delhi writes -

* "troops expeditiously disengaging". Diplomatic talk for "Indians got the shitz and running back"
* "does not know of any concessions". Read below please.
* "Chinese continue to patrol". This is self evident.
* "exercise it's sovereign rights". Bingo. This tells us China has not given up on road construction. Building roads or using land or doing what with it is fundamental exercise of "sovereign rights". If you are capped or restricted then you are no more "sovereign". Please check legal and english meaning of that word. Sovereignty implies "free from restrictions".
