Only Indian troops withdrawing, Chinese troops continue to patrol area

Remember that consideration must be sufficient but it doesn't need to be adequate.

Which is why extremely unbalanced contracts exist, like buying a house for $1. The law doesn't require that contracts give equal consideration to both sides.

We don't know what happened during the backdoor negotiations, so there is no reason to believe the consideration was big or small. It could have been literally anything.

The only thing we have to go on are the official statements, of which NEITHER side said anything about a road.
Considering how important it is for Chinese govt not to show weakness in front of its people, the residents of China will not get to know if any road developments happened. But India survived Chinese threats for 2 months. I don't believe we would budge after investing 2 months. There's some kind of ROI that govt expected, which is why it is safe to presume road construction will be stopped. Regarding exercising its sovereignty the dispute was always between Bhutan and China.

In this case it would be a WIN for India.
well we can only speculate...back door channel negotiations are not and will not be in public...from what it looks like, unless Chinese go back to road building...then perhaps we backed down...otherwise that would be china's position...

And we will do whatever we want as well, like digging up their roads and demolishing their infra with bulldozers every time they try to cook up trouble. :)

Okay

They never said they are building that road either!!You really think we would be fool enough to withdraw without meeting our objectives??Oh and they will be retreating to their earlier positions as well and the disputed area will be open to patrolling by all three parties just like before, so who won actually?? :)

They have said: "will exercise sovereign rights"

And sovereign rights include building whatever you want to in your territory. It is pretty simple to understand unless you want to claim success out of a failure. :)

I have been saying from the start.India needed it's secret weapon. 70 million Banglas.
Guess there were 70 million Banglas in the waste pakistan as well.I mean how else would you explain them losing more than 6000 square kilometers of waste **** territory and hundreds of tanks and artillery pieces in the western front!!

That is the crucial factor missing. Had India managed to get 70 million Banglas to surround the PLA units in they might have stood a chance.
We already achieved our goal of kicking your chicom boyfriends out of Doklam and shoving their damn road so far up their aarse that now they would need to cough it out instead!!
But alas this is not 1971.
You should be happy that this ain't 1971, kiddo.
Banglas are too busy sewing shirts for the Western retail stores.
While your highness is busy licking gora @rses!!

That is what we are saying, it is not their area. It is a disputed area between Bhutan and China. 2012 agreement is to maintain status quo.

It might be disputed but for now it is under complete control of Chinese forces. No bhutani forces. No Indians.

It isn't hard to understand who got the better share. :)

The Chinese state makes direct regerance to "will exercise soveriegn rights". To me that is diplomatic code for we will do "what we want". In other words we will build the roads. What does "exercise soevreign rights" mean? It means do what you want to. If somebody places restrictions then that sovereign has been trammeled.

That is very true, but I didn't want to push too far into interpretations for the sake of keeping it simple when arguing with the Indians here.

What is clear is that when China believes a territory is not disputed, like Donglang, the South China Sea, and northern Pakistan (where CPEC is being built), nothing will stop construction. Unless there are no more construction contracts being awarded.

Exercise sovereign rights can mean patrolling right. Like India and China does in each other's disputed areas.

Shock laga shock laga shock laga.................LAGA!!Zor ka jhatka zor se hi laga, hai ki nehi, Mrs Cheerleader??!!Don't worry, it'll pass, in a decade may be.

Like I said, they are free to do anything, just like we are free to demolish their works whenever we please, like we did this time. They will make the road again - we will dig it out again, they gonna build housing for their troops - we will raze those to the ground with dynamite, business as usual.

expeditious means quick, where does it say mutual, if it were mutual, India would have announced it LOUDLY. If there was any agreement on road cessation, India would have loudly proclaim it. Btw. this is what the Chinese spokesman said.

“Chinese troops continue to patrol on the Chinese side of the boundary.”

You do understand that the whole issue is triggered because of the road construction rather than Chinese patrol which used to happen earlier too

They do not have a permanent presence in that area!!So it's under nobody's complete control as you are trying to portray here. Now this area will once again become open to patrolling by all three parties, just like before.Status quo ante bellum maintained, just what we wanted.

The question here is who has won. There was no fighting. Only posturing. So how do we decide? Well look at what caused this standoff. The Indian's did not want China to build road. That is the bottom line "road".

Now in the agreement to disengage there is nothing that gives India what it wanted. No road. A Indian victory would have looked something like this -

"China and India will expeditiously disengage their troops and both countries agree there will be no road contruction within the stipulated area"

This is what victory would have looked like. Instead both sides are going to status quo ante without any promise on part of China to desist from road contstruction. On the contrary China has said it "will exercise sovereign right" which is another way of saying we will do what we like with our land. Hint: Build what we like.

Yah can you give me the agreement saying we will stop building the road? You were adamant about it as a precondition to withdrawals, then you even highlighted about protecting Bhutan and yet you withdrew. It was a road which escalated to protecting Bhutan and now what? You are just leaving them alone?

No obviously about it, either they put "both sides" or they don't.
Or they could have a joint statement which is not the case here.
obviously Delusional Indians.

Loss of face is better than loss of lives plus loss of land.
.

Looks like china might have thought Loss of road is better than loss of lives :D

India had never 'patrolled' that area genius. So India can build roads on their side and we can't?. You are the one retreating from the commitment to defend Bhutan cow wards. Stop spinning it as if you won.

Last I heard the road is still there.:enjoy:

Forget about an agreement can you give me at least a statement from china which says that we will resume for road construction?
