Online trolls threaten to rape female filmmaker and disfigure her with acid after she 'questioned Hindu practices'
A woman film-maker from Bengaluru has been threatened with rape and acid attack by fundamentalists on her Facebook page for endorsing beef consumption and questioning Hindu practices.
Chetana Thirthahalli, a scriptwriter and associate director of Kannada movies, has lodged a complaint with the Bengaluru Police to seek action against those who issued threats to her on social media.
Chetana had recently participated in a rally in Bengaluru endorsing beef consumption. It was attended by leading litterateurs and feminists. She had also written extensively on Hindu practices in Muslim publications. This led to a heated debate between Chetana, her supporters and those opposed to her views on various social media platforms.
Recently, several individuals posted messages on her Facebook account threatening to rape her. A few others threatened to disfigure her by throwing acid on her face.
Taking the threats seriously, Chetana has approached the police to seek justice. According to her, a few people issued the threats using fake social media accounts.

The police have registered an FIR and investigation into the case has started.
