Two World War II veterans feted; sari, ₹5,000 each given to 59 war widows
The ex-servicemen rally held at Anantapur on Sunday turned out to be a major event with over 4,000 ex-servicemen and their families participating in it and also in the meeting held at the Police Training College (PTC) stadium here.
The programme conducted by the 1 EME Centre, Secunderabad was attended by two veterans of the Second World War besides 59 war widows who were felicitated.
Officers thanked
Fifty-nine war widows were presented with a saree and a sum of ₹5,000 by the wife of Lieutenant General R.K. Anand, General Officer Commanding of the Dakshin Bharat area of the Indian army, who is also a recipient of the Sena Medal and Visisht Seva Medal for his services.
Speaking at the event, Retd Captain Sekanna, president of the District Ex-servicemen’s Association, thanked the officers of the Army present at the event for having given time to hear the grievances of the ex-servicemen and for suggesting the ways and means of solving the same.
Mr. Sekanna also made a special mention of Collector Kona Sasidhar, who also attended the event, for favourably considering the requests of the ex-servicemen’s organisation over the last two years and supporting them.
The meeting was also attended by Major General Sharab Pachauri (VSM), Brigadier Ajay Malik and Colonel Hanu Rao.
