There was 257 bridge failure in the USA during the timeperiod of 2000-2012
There was 157 bridge failure in China during the same time period.
By 2012 ,the no of total bridges in US 600K+
By 2012 ,the no of bridges in china is 700k+
Now ,do your math,which fared better.
India doesn't have that many bridges but the failure rate is multiple times.More than 2000 bridges has collapsed and useless in past three decades. That's excluding pedestrian bridges and culverts.

The frequency suggest something hit the natural resonance of the building. But these building are designed to sway with counterweight on top to counteract the movement. So it actually did pretty well with no structural or superficial damage.
