Modi was responsive to the demands of TN, but you have to illustrate it first as a larger public demand for a leader to realise so and commit time to resolving it in short and mid term among the myriad of issues in front of him.

And no, he did not by-pass the SC legislatively, this is a temporary ordinance while the SC resolves the appeals against the earlier verdict.

A PM cannot and must not make legislation against SC, the upholder and guarantor of the constitution of India, which TN defers to. Even Indira Gandhi did not do that during Emergency....so why you think Modi going to break with precedent?

Because sensible leaders lived then to take the right decision in Tamil Nadu. There were significant numbers of freedom fighters from Tamil Nadu fought against the British and the most prominent being Subhash Chandra Bose. Tamils are patriotic and also proud to be an Indian.

Because the generation of my parents and grandparents were just stupid and believed Hindi-an promises.

There were some leaders and their supporters who did want independence for Tamil Nadu and asked Britain. But there was no violence like in the north. Britain would not have granted Pakistan independence but combined it with India but for the large scale violence.

Because sensible leaders lived then to take the right decision in Tamil Nadu. There were significant numbers of freedom fighters from Tamil Nadu fought against the British and the most prominent being Subhash Chandra Bose. Tamils are patriotic and also proud to be an Indian.
