Jakarta - The Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Budi Karya Sumadi on Thursday (26/1), received the arrival of Guinean Minister of Transportation Felix Lamah, to sign a Letter of Intent (LoI). This is the first step in the commitment of the two countries to explore cooperation in the field of aviation.
The initial agreement between Indonesia and countries located in West Africa will then be followed up at the technical level.
The visit of the Minister of Transport of Guinea is a follow-up to the meeting of the Indonesian Ambassador in Dakar, Senegal, with the Government of Guinea in September 2022. In addition to conveying its need to modernize the transportation sector, Guinea also expressed its interest in cooperating in the transportation sector with Indonesia, especially in the air transportation sector.
During his visit to Indonesia, the Minister of Transportation of Guinea visited several places including, namely, a visit to PT. Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI). It said it would establish a national airline (Guinea Air) and expressed interest in using aircraft made by PT DI.
"We are opening up that opportunity and are ready to work with the Government of Guinea," said the Minister of Transportation.
The Minister of Transportation said, PT DI is one of the strategic companies owned by Indonesia in the field of aircraft manufacturing and its components. "PT. DI has produced a number of aircraft, which until now have been used by various countries, both as passenger transport and military purposes," said the Minister of Transportation.
The Minister of Transportation stated that the sea and air transportation sector has a very important role in realizing connectivity in the archipelago-shaped territory of Indonesia "For this reason, we have formed various strategic companies as manufacturing industries to support the needs of the aviation industry, one of which is PT DI," said the Minister of Transportation.
Furthermore, the Minister of Transportation revealed that cooperation opportunities are not only in the air sector, but also open to other sectors, namely on land, sea, and railways. In addition, it is also for the fulfillment of human resources in the air transportation sector in accordance with ICAO standard programs and curricula.
"I will coordinate with the Ambassador to facilitate the identification of more concrete cooperation," said the Minister of Transportation.
Also present in this activity was the Indonesian Ambassador to Guinea Dindin Wahyudin and the Director General of Civil Aviation Maria Kristi Endah Murni. (HH/RDL/BRD/HT)
