But that is not a constitutional amendment and there is nothing Congress could do about it. This one was a constitutional amendment as Sales tax was part of state list.

Thats why PC wanted GST rate to be mentioned in constitutional amendment bill so no government can change it furthur own its own.

Last year there was a DROUGHT in SIXTEEN STATES

In such times or say in times of WAR ; government needs more money

If it is a part of constitution amendment ; it will not be possible to raise taxes
unless all states ratify it

With rate of taxes being separate as a separate legislation ; additional revenue can be raised immediately

I am not in its favour, just recalling what PC said.

They knew the disadvantages of that ; they were just playing politics

Chidamabaram is loosing his sharpness and edge ; He slipped up many a times

In the end it was all Jaitley

Thanks for the response buddy :) ..really good for country just one danger now what if congrees and third power came in power again in 2019 ...whole hard work will be in drain if that happen

Yes it will. GST will be a single tax for whole country decreasing the overall indirect tax burden on common man. Thus increasing the consumption. It will bring down the cascading effect of different central and state tax. Thus it will also increase the profit of the corporates and will also act as a motivation for foreigners to invest in country to benefit from GST and increase their profit level.
It will also increase the tax compliance and tax collection of government in long run.

No it will not happen. GST was 1st proposed in 2004, when congress was in power and a year before VAT was introduced replacing sales tax at state level.
It's a constitunal amendment bill and a progressive one, 1st of all if congress tries to revert back it need the kind of majority that bjp has or will have to convince everyone around(political parties). Which itself is very time taking procedure.
Second it will be seen as a hampering of growth and also as reverting from the growth measures. GST is the most progressive taxation system for indirect taxes. It will send a negative signal to world, fdi and other kind of investment will take a toll. Even investment from domestic private sector will suffer. Etc. So, congress can't afford that to happen.
Moreover GST will bring down the price of consumer goods benefiting general public and will push the gdp growth cycle thus increasing the overall revenue for govt(every govt want that, it will also help in reducing fiscal deficit and fiscal consolidation)
Money collected will go go to consolidated fund of india and will be divided between center and state according to the provision of the finance Commission. Congress can't do anything in these.
GST will make procedure more transparent as everything will be based on IT systems making it less prone to corruption then ever before.

My concern was if BJP lost in 2019 the pace of reforms will become slow and we lost more years in Congressiya style politics and have one more appointed PM instead of elected one.
