(Defensa.com) Interested in acquiring Lockheed Martin F16 (the Tranche C / D) to complement the fleet IAI kfir that were recently repowered and due to technical problems they have had with the drop of 4 active units and delivery phase, the Colombian Air Force (FAC) has decided to study and apply the experiences of several users F16, visiting for it bases where they are deployed.

-FACh- Chilean Air Force, has been one of the destinations of commissioned officers for this purpose and according defensa.com has noted, the FACh would have recommended their Colombian counterparts to consider all possible variables if they decide in the future buy F16s second hand due to some technical problems experienced fleet acquired by Chile to the Netherlands in 2005, consisting of 18 units of F16 MLU M2 (11 F-16AM and 7 F-16BM) and in 2008 18 more units of F16 MLU M4. In fact, apparently the FACh has made known to the FAC, that its program of modernization of F16 aircraft, rushing ENAER under the supervision of the Dutch company "Daedalus" in the Under the "Pacer Amstel" program, which seeks to standardize all aircraft to level 4 Tape, presented disadvantages and cost has been higher than initially established, which adds to the inconvenience of having three different versions of this aircraft taking that include F16 Block 50/52 fighters new. In the past, the largest Henk Effing, officer of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, said the F16 aircraft sold to Chile suffered some changes before delivery, stating "Even were changed parts firsthand antiques and shabby "; also held that, "The US gave permission on condition that a number of changes to software hacieran aircraft, radar configuration, wiring and cockpit; the ability to fire air to air missile guidance radar and AIM-120 AMRAAM antiradiation weapons, as the Shrike and Harm "was removed. they should just buy at least 24 SU-35 from Russia. the biggest threat to Columbia isn't the FARC. It's Venezuela that is on the verge of collapse.

And how much were these officers "paid" to make their opposition so public ? lol.

harsh....

There should be no problem if you single source your F-16s. After the USAF, Israel is the second largest user of F-16s. It has some 77 F16A and 16 F16B which it may seek to sell. So, that gives at least 2 potential F-16 single sources. ANd the Israëli's could offer an upgrade as well.

New Su-35 is US$40 million to $65 million per aircraft.

Kfir Block 60 would be around $20 million (i.e. 2-3 for the same price, without impact on logistics and training). According to sources at IAI, the company can deliver up to 50 Kfirs, configured to the newest ‘Block 60’ standard, utilizing airframes retired from IAF service in the 1990s. These aircraft were mothballed in the southern Negev desert, and are in good condition for refurbishment.

At 40 Years of age, Kfir Turns into a “Networked Fighter” | Defense Update:

Over the last few years, developing nations have taken to buying used F-16s from allies to strengthen their air forces without spending billions on buying new aircraft. While Lockheed Martin will charge about $70 million for a brand new F-16, a second-hand jet will cost just $15 million. For many countries on a budget, that is an attractive offer. Jordon in 2007 signed an agreement with Belgium for the sale of 14 F-16s worth $90 million [$6,4 million per unit]. Earlier in 2009, Chile purchased 18 F-16 aircraft from the Netherlands in a contract worth $270 million [$15 million per unit]. New F-16s are $40-50 million apiece.

If Columbia were to consider buying Russian, then why not also consider buying Chinese?
But as they have indicated, they are looking for USED aircraft, so that pretty much rules out SU-35's and other NEW aircraft.
