The Dassault Rafale is a French twin-engine, canard delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation.

Equipped with a wide range of weapons, the Rafale is intended to perform air supremacy, interdiction, aerial reconnaissance, ground support, in-depth strike, anti-ship strike and nuclear deterrence missions.

The Rafale was developed as a modern jet fighter with a very high level of agility; Dassault chose to combine a delta wing with active close-coupled canard to maximize manoeuvrability.

The aircraft is capable of withstanding from −3.6g to 9g (10.5g on Rafale solo display and a maximum of 11g can be reached in case of emergency). The Rafale is an aerodynamically unstable aircraft and uses digital fly-by-wire flight controls to artificially enforce and maintain stability.

The aircraft's canards also act to reduce the minimum landing speed to 115 knots (213 km/h; 132 mph); while in flight, airspeeds as low as 15 knots (28 km/h; 17 mph) have been observed during training missions.

According to simulations by Dassault, the Rafale has sufficient low speed performance to operate from STOBAR-configured aircraft carriers, and can take off using a ski-jump with no modifications.

I don't know if the skill flying Kfir would translate to flying Rafale. They are two different aircraft from two different generation and commonality is negligible to begin with. They don't even share much in term of weapon carried except for basic stuff like Mk80s, paveways or Exocets

I thought FAC requirement is filled by FA-50 (and for them to either get F-16V or KF-21 or advanced version of FA-50 with AESA radar and F414 engine ala Gripen E) but I thought wrong.

If they get Rafale, they would have the best jet fighter in Latin America. The Brazilians have the Gripen,Chile has some F-16A/C and Venezuela has Su-30. The rest...are not worth mentioning.

Lately Rafale turned out to be a great export success for France.

French have lowered their prices - they are desperate to build up a customer base or keep customers on french military planes so that they have a business case for future FCAS sales.

There is every chance that the FCAS for France/Germany will fall apart again due to differing needs and objectives and the French will decide to go it alone on FCAS again.

They are sniffing around Saudia Arabia alot at the moment aswell. ( not convinced it will happen for them .. )

The Colombians don't actually need it,they could have ordered a cheaper aircraft.

Hi,

So---India---Egypt---GCC---Croatia order don't count to anything---?
No sir, because Egypt got it in 2015,Qatar ordered it in 2015,India's order was problematic and Croatia ordered after us.

Actually,I mentioned that because it's a funny saying here, that after we got them, everybody started ordering Rafale. Because if you see the order history, after 2020,there was a sudden increase in orders and interest. Some deals didn't work out,for example Switzerland chose the F-35,Brazil got the Gripen,Serbia is still thinking about it,Finland and Belgium also ordered the F-35...but Croatia and the UAE ordered it,the Serbs and the Saudis are negotiating with the French .

So it's like a joke, that we say here, you know...that after Greece,so many countries started getting interested in it ;)
