Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Saturday (today) said that he had decided to resign over allegations of his political rivals following Supreme Court’s report on Quetta hospital carnage.

While addressing the press conference in Islamabad he said, “I went to the prime minister to tell him that I wanted to resign from my position but was told not to do so.”

On Friday, following a judicial commission’s damning report on the August 8 Quetta carnage, opposition Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmakers demanded that the interior minister is removed from his post.

On December 16, the PPP also submitted an adjournment motion against Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in the National Assembly Secretariat, claiming that the interior minister was incapable of playing a role in combating terrorism.

The one-man commission report released by the Supreme Court on Thursday pointed out the ‘monumental failure’ of the interior ministry to combat terrorism.

Based on investigations into the Quetta incident in which 70 people, most of them lawyers, were killed, the report said Nisar ‘displayed little sense of ministerial responsibility’ and that there was a continued delay on part of his ministry to take steps against militant groups and proscribed organisations.

And now the Prime Minister will not accept and everything will remain as usual?

It would be shocking it PM accepts his resignation but then it could be political victory for Noon league, another reason in the general election ke kursi ko laat maar di

The reports by CJ means or it could be understood that the Dawn scandal to malign the armed forces has fallen flat on its arse because these very mofo's are now protecting them in Punjab and not allowing operation against them! Lets cast our minds back to the time when they wanted to negotiate with them in North Waziristan which led to Zarb e Azab completely undermining the government. Same thing is needed in Punjab and Interior Sindh start the operation no if's and but's!

Chaudry Nisar is honest man and clean from any corruption, he should not fear from anyone.
It was good step by Nisar to give resignation, He has clean past , he will not allow anyone to make false allegations.

Really?! He's involved in mass land grabbing in Chakri area and has destroyed Nadra for his personal vendetta against that institution. There are no saints in the cabinet!

What world are you living in?

He's part of the land mafia. He's involved in massive land grab in Pindi. This is why he does not get along with Malik Riaz because both of them are Qabza Mafia. This is why every Patwari and Tehsil Dar is hired as per Nisar's instructions. Just look at his performance as the Interior Minister, completely pathetic.

You know when a "resignation" on such issues isn't accepted? When someone's performance outside of one or two events, has been much better and he or she was able to help thwart other serious issues. It appears to me that we may have a big youth population on here who don't actually have experience in real life, or if older people, probably the same with less education or experience. No offense intended. Things don't just work as a jungle if you are a part of the system. Your government doesn't really want to be maligned on any issue by their opponents. But if they are taking such an action, there are reason.

I personally know that Pakistani military holds a high regards for this gentleman, including the previous Army Chief. So there are a few things this guy did for the country to strengthen the internal controls. Real life is much different than the "dinner table politics talk" between friends and family guys. Mature up please.

Hope this resignation culture prevails. Amen.

Absolutely, I agree. Pakistan needs it. Whether a resignation is accepted or not, its a different story. But if anyone feels responsible in a situation, it is a very important step towards creating a mature system and a mature thought process. The need to "stick to the power" and move from General to President, or never resign if you are a Civil servant, should go away now.
