Offer of dialogue while you fire guns is akin to a hoax: Dr Musharraf
Member of BNP's Standing Committee, Dr Khandaker Musharraf Hussein stressed that "The (BAL) government is proposing discussions on one hand and killing people like flies on the other hand by indiscriminate gunfire. This is improper, and the (BAL) government must create a true enabling environment (for discussions) rather than deceiving people (with such doublespeak)."
He made these comments at a pre-rally conference arranged at the occasion of the International Women's Day on Friday at 11 AM in front of the BNP head office at Naya Paltan, Dhaka.
Dr Khandaker Musharraf Hussein asserted that "Killing people indiscriminately by gunfire while calling for dialogue and discussions is akin to a hoax by the government."
He said to the (BAL) government, that "If you want to hold a discussion in its true spirit, then stop deceiving the public in this manner and create a truly enabling environment (for such discussion). Stop your mass murder, stop oppressing the Opposition party, retract false cases and stop arrests. " The BNP leader also said, "I invite the PM to offer an official offer for a discussion with a definite agenda for the reinstatement of the Caretaker Government if they truly wish for a discussion."
He added, "The BNP will consider if such a proposal were to be made (by BAL). The BNP believes in dialogue and always looks forward to resolution of problems."
Citing the warning of "suppression with an iron fist" sounded by the PM against the public, Dr Musharraf objected to it quoting the precise phrase used by the PM.
He said, "The (BAL) government is plotting to impose Emergency Law around the country, (but) the public will not tolerate these plots. All opposition parties have joined ranks for the one-point demand of the downfall of the (BAL) government. The public will foil all conspiracies hatched by the (BAL) govt. None of the conspiracy blueprints created by the (BAL) govt will be of any use to them any longer."
He further said, "You have created conflict in the country. Stinging the entire country with your poisonous fangs, you now pretend to be 'shamans' intent on curing the public's ailment. It is you that have to protect the country from these (conflicts). You should not push the people of the country towards conflicts."
Under the chairmanship of the President of the organization, Noor-e-Ara Safa, this conference was also attended by vice chairman Selima Rahman, the General Secretary of the "Women's Party" (Women's wing of BNP) Shirin Sultana and others who spoke at the occasion. The rally began in front of the head office (of BNP) at Naya Paltan and traversed Bijai Nagar, Kakrail, Saenti Nagar and Malibag before ending at Mauchek.
