But i heard the root cause of the conflict was that after independence the Sinhalese kept the tamils out of education and government etc and then started imposing sinhalese . so per my understanding there was a few decades of economic discrimination that really started this thing. please correct me if im wrong

The root cause was that the Tamils were more educated and influential at the time of independence. This was because of both the British preference to empower the minority community against the majority and the Tamils willingness to choose education as a path to success. so there was a lot of resentment among some section of Sinhalese which resulted in riots that killed Tamils. This was the reason LTTE was formed. Except for that riot, the affluent Tamils of colombo are pretty safe. The people most affected by the conflict were the poor Tamils who went from India during the colonial period as tea plantation workers. They are still called Indian Tamils and descriminated.

The problem I see here is, There isn't a single srilankan sympathizing with their Tamil citizens but they openly show their hatred for them. There is still a great level of mistrust among these communities and the government rather than taking measures to reduce the mistrust is raking up Sinhala nationalism to unite the Sinhalese against those who criticize their treatment of Tamils.

In TN the minority Tamil Brahmin population were in the same position as SL tamils at independence. They were more educated and had more govt jobs during the British times. Then the govt of TN had a virulent anti-Brahmin campaign and they were victimized to the extent that 70% of college seats and govt jobs were reserved for the non Brahmins. Today i have seen that Tamil Brahmins are nowhere in the landscape and their culture slowly destroyed and replaced with cheap film culture. It is so funny that TN govt wants to fight for SL tamil rights, whereas they are committing the same discrimination in their own land. Also its important to remember that the Tamil Brahmins did not take the violent path and accepted the crap dished out to them.

TN Brahmins never prevented anyone from getting an education or to study. During the British times they got more government jobs and enrolled more in college because they recognized importance of education. Tell me 1 year when tamil brahmins ruled over TN. I think the current reservation based on caste is discrimination. If its based on financial status then its not.

there was NO material discrimination of Tam brahms on others. there was never an instance when tambrahms prevented others from getting an education.
this is releevant because TN politicians cannot hold govt to ransom when they themselves discriminate in their home

brother, in villages and cities the non-brahmins have a caste war.. brahmins are NEVER EVER involved, because there are no more Tam Brahms there. They have been completely chased out of there to small pockets in cities thats all.
I have been trying to find instances of discrimination of tam brahms against non brahms and only find some instance of temple entries that too a hundred years ago. nothing to do with livelihood affecting things like education or empyment

All I can say is that historically tam brahmins never ruled in TN. they never influenced casste system there, so they should not be punished with the reservation system in TN, It shows great character of brahmins that even under so much oppression by DK politics they are still not creating violence like SL tamils. they are just minding their wn business and still do better than the corrpt non Brahmins.
