Odds stack up against India at UN vote on Sri Lanka

Though i am not a tamil,i fully support them, this useless congress government cant do anything, let them vote against sanctions this will act as a catalyst against there demise,we can deal with srilanka when congress is out of picture.
Why the f*uck do you bring politics in everything....................All Indians have sympathy for Sri Lankan Tamils.........but they are citizens of Sri Lanka and it is the internal matter of Srilanka...........

.
seems like you know nothing, thousands got died due to this Tamil tiger terrorists groups suicide bombs and their activities, I do have a personal suicide truck bomb experience fortunately I didn't go to school that day but bomb able to shake my home in the morning. I have to fill forms telling how many strangers at my home every month those days :(, have to attended security meetings :( have to avoid public transport locations, more check points :( when a bomb blasts dozens of calls asking "where are ya?" are you okay etc etc.................now those things has gone to history and enjoying a life in Sri Lanka!

But sometimes come to mind if India did not train that Tamil tiger terrorist group in their soil we won't face this much troubles. Lives we lost are all Sri Lankans, Hope India won't train another terrorist group against any country in our region. :)

So from what you are saying the tamils were living very happy until out of the blue india started dropping arms from the skies and the savage tamils seeing all the arms lying in the open decided to go turkey hunting ? Seems like its you who know nothing about the part just before indian version or was it india too that secretly aided sri lanka in oppressing the tamils ? you just conveniently forget who set the house on fire first i wonder why ;)

OT : Sorry to hear about your close call with death and glad that you were not hurt during the bombing :)

what I mean is word "Tamil" is not mentioning the all Tamils in SL. If you're a Tamil use the phrase "Indian Tamil" and live 2-3 months in northern areas you'll feel what I mean.

Any Indian Tamil/non Indian Tamil member here has visited Sri Lanka in the recent years? share your honest travelogues here.

First of all the OP made a fool out of himself thinking that India is bringing a resolution againt Lanka..infact its the exact opposite. So a facepalm.

Coming to the topic, I hope the US ,along with countries with a bit of humanity left in them , are successful in bringing the resolution and account for the barbaric war crimes committed by the power drunk soldiers of the Lankan Army which included mass shelling civilians, trophy killing and recording shooting of civilians including 12 year olds and rendering lakhs of tamil homeless.

According to you SL army has fought with just civilians. surrendered and captured Tamil Tigers rehabilitated and back to society but SL army wanted to kill civilians? isn't that funny?

Odds stack up against India at UN vote

NEW DELHI: India's efforts to get a UN resolution on human rights violations by Sri Lanka off the table have only a slim chance of success.
Why is India against this resolution? Anyone can explain the real reasons (and please leave that China angle alone - NAM countries are also opposing this resolution, IMHO, China has nothing to do with India's stance). Does it have to do with India's efforts in the post-war political resolution of Tamil issues?
The non-aligned countries, a sizeable group in the UN, have solidly opposed the resolution and backed Sri Lanka. India that often plays the role of a leader is a member of the group. The Asian countries within the grouping will stay with Sri Lanka.
Since this is a UN vote, and not a UNSC vote, vetoes dont count. What are the implications of this resolution? Is it just to condemn the civilian atrocities by SL army in the final push against LTTE or something more binding?

How would this resolution help or hinder SL in rehabilitating IDP Tamil refugees and the process of political reconciliation?

Agreed. Lol.

To what end? India supported SL against LTTE both politically and if some reports are to be believed, covert militarily - with 'military advisers'. India wanted to see LTTE gone. Period. But the issue of atrocities against Tamil civilians remains and it would be interesting to see, given India's stance in supporting SL, how SL would resolve that issue. What exactly is going on here?

To the end where the Lankans prosecute the war criminals who went on a rampage during the last phase of the war mass killing Tamil civilians with no regard to humanitarian norms and ensure a closure for the victims and make sure there is no further discrimination of the Tamils and stop Sinhalization of the Tamil areas erasing the Tamil culture.

1. "Mass killing of civilians" these are just word games, if this happened every family in that area should have miss 2-3 family members or relatives. If SL army wanted done such thing it could be done very easily not wanted wait for last phrase.

2. There are many ethnic groups, there also another Tamil groups around the country. no special rights to any ethnic in sri lanka, all got equal rights.

3. There are no areas called "Tamil Areas" in Sri Lanka. Anyone can live any where in the island. Most people love "Western Province" though.

I cant blame the leadership of Sri Lanka for ending the war in the decisive and bloody manner they did. The war is finally over. Some people may have wanted the government to fight the tigers with flowers and hugs and kisses, expecting peace to break out.

The tigers were a massive threat to peace in the entire region. Its better they are gone. I don't see a point in punishing the Lankan government for doing what it had to do.

I think the international community should focus on rebuilding and rehabilitation, not a pointless witch hunt. The biggest violator of human rights during the war was the leader of the tigers, and hes dead now.

If I am not wrong ur a damn malayali (some gud people are there). Tamil people knw very well abt roles of Malayali's in Tamil genocide in SL. A.K.Anthony ,Shivshangar menon , Nirupama rao are Malayalis.

Denial is not good. Atleast accept the faults and try to rectify them.

All get equal rights except the Sinhalese who get extra rights...Wasnt that very thing that actually started the civil war.

3. There are no areas called "Tamil Areas" in Sri Lanka. Anyone can live any where in the island. Most people love "Western Province" though.

Tamil areas are the Northern and Eastern provinces where are a steady Sinhalization is underway erasing any trace of Tamil identity.

Dude...it was a Malayali , MGR who played a vital role in initial support to the Tigers...Malayalis are not to be blamed..its the Congress thugs who are to be blamed. I'm a Tamil myself and even the Tamil nadu congress leaders did not have the balls to speak up for the Tamils in lanka.

India's foreign policy is one of knee jerk reaction with respect to SL.

There are couple of reasons - the first one is that the SL has been playing this game of threatening to become a base for outside powers - US till 1990s and China since the 2000s. the second reason is the basic insecurity with respect to TN due to the slogan of "Separate Tamilnadu" and "Separate Dravidanadu" coming out of TN between 1940 and 1960 which is no more the situation. The result is India has been losing out throughout.
1. The katchatheevu was illegally transferred to SL by Indira - it does not have the ratification of two houses of parliament.
2. That is also the reason Rajiv sent IPKF to SL and we lost so many soldiers.
3. Have to compete for space with China as China helped SL big time in the war against LTTE
4. Inspite of all the fishermen dying - could not do much.

and now could not even vote against HR violations by SL and wants to go against the sentiments of the tamilians again to appease SL.

We see this knee jerk reaction with Nepal as well while allowing the anti-India Maoist to firmly get entrenced in Nepal while we could have had Nepal totally on our side by supporting Royal Nepalese army full-fledged by providing complete military support in 1990s and 2000s.

It happened in Burma till Narasimha Rao revamped the policy.

And it happens in Maldives now.

India must strengthen itself from within lending its ears to inner voices. Diplomacy can not be a medium of interaction with those who give nuts about it. Military intervention is not what I ask for, all we want to convey is India must listen to its people rather fearing Sri Lanka to turn against us becoming a base for External Threats. If this nation stands as one, then we might loose a neighbor to our enemies but since the inner bonding gets strong the loss will not hamper our growth.
