October Surprise: my prediction for war

A military satellite that has any hope of taking a picture like that must be a lot lot closer to the earth's surface - maybe around 300km. That is the orbital altitude of the typical spy satellite and some even get down to 200km.

Also we need to take into account that the satellite would be looking into the earth's atmosphere and that would cause image distortion, and looking at the size of the buildings in comparison the plane seems to be quite close to the earth's surface.

Asteroids tend to be much much more larger than a fighter aircraft and so much farther away, hence low angular velocity and so their angular velocity would be tiny, unlike that of the fighter that this "satellite" has videoed.

Sorry but this looks to me like a high flying plane taking a video of the low flying plane. China has not come up with some futuristic technology to be able to shoot a video of a flying fighter aircraft from space.

Here's a 100 MP privately funded cubesat Xiaomi camera in space with no optics.

For reference, the Hubble Space Telescope is 8 MP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_Field_Camera_3

Problem is getting a good enough track on the US fleet as you cannot launch volley after volley of cruise missiles and just hope for the best.

F-35s will protect from the air and SSNs will protect under the ocean.

Cruise missiles have the same problem as ASBMs and that is getting a good enough track of the US fleet.

How about optical/SAR/ELINT satellites, over-the-horizon radar, surface warships, submarines, 350+ ship navy, maritime patrol aircraft, drones, sonar arrays laid on the sea floor, acoustic sensing buoys, and underwater gliders?

You run into any of these things and your position is revealed.

You can shoot them down and your position is STILL revealed.

H-6K, H-6N, and H-6J with 900 cruise missiles are headed your way, along with ASBMs from PLARF.

The H-6s are escorted by hundreds of Flankers (and some J-20s). Good luck with that. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of THAT attack.

Your ships don't have any chance against B52,B1,B2 bombers. Over 700 of those bombers and the number of long range stand off range missiles they can launch at you with impunity.

US attack on Chinese islands will be met with fierce counterattack: Global Times editorial

The US Air Force magazine reported that the MQ-9 Reaper drone was participating in maritime exercises with strike coordination. This was the air force's first drone tactical training exercise in the Pacific Ocean. What is particularly eye-catching is that the photo published in magazine shows that the patches on related airmen's uniforms feature an MQ-9 superimposed over a red silhouette in the shape of a map of China. This is widely regarded as highly unusual.

It is not surprising that the military has imaginary enemies in its daily training. But the force involving MQ-9 put map of China on patches, and Air Force magazine published related picture. This is an extremely arrogant provocation. According to reports, the last time the US Air Force put a country on the patch was during the Vietnam War. Putting map of China on patches, already a radical move, and publishing the picture, obviously the US military wants to send a strong signal.

Washington is stepping up its war preparations against China, and drones, which have been involved in assassination and other attacks around the world, will also play a role. This is the strategic signal sent by the US Air Force Magazine's report on the MQ-9 Reaper drone.

This is a move to further stir hostilities between Chinese and American societies and an extortion against China. The US military is using the drones and patches to stimulate the imagination and create images of China and the US going to war. It's also a move to mobilize public opinion.

The US State Department issued a statement on Sunday, once again criticizing China's island construction in the Nansha Islands, accusing China of "reckless and provocative militarization" and threatening to hold China accountable. The statement was a series of rude accusations against China. It was also recently reported that the US military would send MQ-9 Reaper drones to launch attacks on three islands and reefs of Nansha, bombing runways and hangars. The combination of these messages brought to the surface a very ambitious American war plan.

Whatever the link between these messages, we must warn the US side: Attacking China's Nansha Islands or other Chinese targets using MQ-9 Reaper drones is an act of war. The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will surely fight back, causing the US military to pay a heavy price.

There was speculation that the Trump administration might try to boost their reelection campaign by creating a military crisis. But using drones to attack Chinese targets is a real war, a war crime that destroys peace. The Trump administration can't expect China to coordinate with it. To China, that is an invasion and an aggression of war. Our only option is to strike hard at the aggressors and teach them a lesson they will never forget.

China will shoot down incoming US warplanes, no matter they are unmanned or manned. If those planes cause actual damage to Chinese islands and reefs, we will strike the platforms and bases from which those planes take off. The Nansha islands have only a small number of defensive weapons. If they are attacked, those islands would henceforth need to be turned into a fully operational military base to counter any serious threat to them.

The US military and politicians in Washington should take our warnings seriously, and not have strategic misjudgments that they can do whatever they want and China will swallow the anger. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean War. At that time, Douglas MacArthur proclaimed that China would not send troops, which was widely recognized in the US, but Washington was wrong. In 1950, China had the courage to fight a bloody war with the US army. Today we will not hesitate in the face of extreme provocation and attack.

If Washington wants to try its luck, the Chinese military and Chinese people will surely rise to the challenge and fight to the end.

OK, let us be serious here.

A USN/USMC naval attack on China will be NOTHING like the Korean war where China sent hundreds of thousands of male soldiers to their deaths in Korea.

US still has a massive advantage in fighter aircraft and SSNs over the Chinese and these will be brought to China's doorstep.

Remember China will be more keen to avoid escalation as the US will be at China's door and it has the option of destroying vital Chinese infrastructure like power stations and bridges.

Talk without substance has no meaning like in that article.

LOL at humiliated Bangladeshi going bonkers

1. China's J-20 stealth fighter has 4th gen engines.

2. China's best in production SSN(Type-093B) is worse than the US seawolf class SSN from the 1990s.

3. China's two aircraft carriers combined would lose an air-battle with a single America Class "assault ship".

These are facts and no amount of nationalistic rhetoric will change that.

Pope cancels Pompeo meeting as China bishops deal up for renewal

Pope Francis has cancelled a meeting with the US’ top diplomat as it prepares to
renew a deal on the appointment of Catholic bishops in China.

The Holy See told US diplomats that the Pope’s planned meeting with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had to be cancelled because it might be seen as a sign of support for US President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported on Sunday.

But Pompeo’s criticism of the Vatican’s continued talks with Beijingmight have also been a factor, according to José Miguel Encarnação, a Macau-based commentator on religious affairs.

“This is not the best time for the Pope to receive someone from the Trump administration. If there wasn’t an election, he would find another reason [to not meet Pompeo],” Encarnação said.

US MQ-9 drones use China as imaginary enemy, ‘easy to shoot down’

China can easily shoot down the US' MQ-9 Reaper drones - a type of aircraft designed for anti-terrorism missions and "bullying" armed forces without proper air defense systems - should the US send them and launch attacks on China, Chinese military experts said on Tuesday, after US media reported that the US Air Force is using China as an imaginary opponent of the drones.

The US held "Exercise Agile Reaper" - the first training event featuring MQ-9 drones in the Pacific focusing on tactics including maritime interdiction capabilities - from September 3 until Tuesday, the Air Force Magazine, an official publication of the US Air Force Association, reported on September 24.

During the event, the US airmen wore patches on their uniforms featuring an MQ-9 superimposed over a red silhouette of China, the report said. The US Air Force's arrogance is on display as it is making China an imaginary enemy for the drones, analysts said.

The MQ-9 is not worth worrying about for China, because it does not possess stealth capabilities and flies at a low speed and low ceiling, which makes it an easy target for ground-to-air missiles, Fu Qianshao, a Chinese military aviation expert, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

Armed reconnaissance drones - like the MQ-9 - can only be deployed when facing smaller countries and regions with less developed armed forces that do not have adequate air defense capabilities, Fu said, noting that many US drones have been shot down in their previous missions.

For example, Iran shot down a US RQ-4 Global Hawk drone in 2019, a type of drone analysts said is technically more advanced than the MQ-9. Even Yemen's Houthis forces have downed multiple MQ-9s since 2017.

A report by US military newspaper the Stars and Stripes on Saturday said that the MQ-9's capabilities could come "in handy" in a location such as the South China Sea.

If the US were to launch such kind of attacks, however, it would be a declaration of war, and the US would face serious consequences, Fu said.

China will unquestionably launch a counterattack, Fu said, noting that the MQ-9 will be like a practice target, of which the Chinese military has many methods at its disposal to deal with.

Even the US Air Force Magazine acknowledged in its report that the US Air Force has grown skeptical over the MQ-9's capability against an opponent such as China, as it could be easily shot due to its lack of stealth and its transmissions could be jammed.

The promotion of the MQ-9 as a tool against China is only a ploy used by the US Air Force to make this "obsolete" drone look useful again, analysts said.

Posting your war fantasies online won't make them come true.

In reality, there will be no direct confrontation between two nuclear powers.

In reality, The US is dealing with over 7 million COVID-19 cases, tens of millions of unemployed, and nationwide protests that have dragged on for MONTHS.

In China?

Over the eight-day “Golden Week” holiday starting Oct. 1, Chinese travelers are expected to make 600 million domestic trips within China, proving once and for all that life is back to normal in the country where COVID-19 first emerged.

Technically what he says is true though.
  1. The J-20 is indeed using 4th generation engines (3rd generation using Chinese classifications). The latest WS-10 is still ultimately a generation behind the F119/F135.
  2. The 093B is inferior to the Seawolf/Virginas for sure, its level is around that of a improved Los Angeles Class (688i) from the 90s. The 095 will be the Chinese answer to the Seawolf/Virginas.
  3. The J-15 is indeed much inferior to the F-35s ... they will need to operate in tandem with J-20 in order to stand any chance against the F-35. Until the J-35 becomes operational, this will be true.

Some Chinese posters are putting all their faith in an untested ASBM working as advertised.

Not a single test has been done on a moving target out in the open ocean. Even this would not replicate a real-life scenario of China not knowing with certainty of where the carrier is, decoys, ABM defences and evasive manoeuvres. Not to mention that the USA will be trying it's best to kill as many of the sensors and tracking systems that the ASBM relies on.

Granted it is reasonable to assume that the Chinese may get a hit or two by launching hundreds of ASBMs at the general area of the carrier and maybe one or two will find a carrier(or another ship) and then get through all defences.

The problem with above is that USA could send 10 carriers(6 super-carriers and 4 "assault ships") packed with hundreds of F-35B/Cs and F-18s against China to defend Taiwan.

USA has ample marine firepower in 2020 to defeat any Chinese invasion of Taiwan and does not even need to use any land-based airbases.

They don’t understand that US bombers can launch massive salvoes of missiles. Recently, a US Air Force General stated they could deploy 75-85 bombers on the opening day of war. 20-25 B-1s, 35-40 B-52s, and 18-20 B-2s. On the low end that’s 1,500-1,600 cruise missiles in a single day. An that’s just from US bombers.
