Obama: Iran to be very successful regional power

Yeah, because America need the money and arms of Iran to clear up the mess in Iraq now.

So you are a Global power now ?

The question is what successful means in American diplomacy and view !!?

If that means something like modern Turkey or other US backed dependent countries in the world , Then we had that in 1979 .

In this case , We had the best and most modern plans to develop the country , we had the best military and the west relied on us in middle east , we had the best universities in region , we were becoming nuclear power in region and so on .

If we had all of them 40 years ago then why the hell did we throw them away and revolted !!?

So my Turkish and Iranian friends I'm torn between ordering a Pepperoni Pizza or a Cheese Lover's pizza; any recommendations ?

How about Abgoosht ?

Well, the Persians are definately a regional power, only to be hamstrung by western ambitions to curtail their rise. I believe a strong Iran will maintain the balance of power in the mid-east. Hope you guys have a better year in 2015.

One day...

Everybody is suffering in Iran. If it wasn't the case and they target one particular ethnicity, Azerbaijan would have been bigger now.

Now you are making sense.

Yup, one day :)

US President Barack Obama acknowledges that Iran would become a “very successful regional power” if a long-term nuclear agreement is reached.

“They have got a chance to get right with the world,” Obama said in an interview with NPR News, which was taped at the White House on Dec. 18 and aired on Monday.

More than a year ago, Iran agreed to an interim agreement to suspend 20-percent uranium enrichment in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions pending on a long-term deal.

Despite progress in the talks, Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- China, Russia, Britain, France, and the United States -- plus Germany failed to clinch a final deal by a Nov. 24 deadline. The talks have now been extended until July 1, 2015.

Tehran maintains that the issue of sanctions, not the level of uranium enrichment, is the main stumbling block to reaching a comprehensive deal.

In the interview, Obama said Iran should seize the chance of a long-term deal that could lift the sanctions.

“Because if they do, there’s incredible talent and resources and sophistication inside of Iran and it would be a very successful regional power that was also abiding by international norms and international rules – and that would be good for everybody,” the US president said.

Obama was asked whether his moves earlier this month to restore relations with Cuba might lead to similar steps with Iran, including opening an embassy in Tehran. He said Iran and Cuba were not comparable, but added, "I never say never."

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released a new report, confirming Iran’s commitment to the interim deal it signed with the P5+1 group in 2013.

Iran is an old civilization. It has brilliant people. If they can come out of this religious extremism , I fore sea a very bright future of Iran. They have bring in a liberal government to power. Iran is going in right direction. Some more efforts are needed.

What this guy is talking about. For 36 years, they did every thing in their power from supporting Saddam to parking their air craft carriers next to Iran, in order to keep Iran from becoming a regional or global power and now, he is ready to accept Iran as a regional power, out of the blue? I seriously doubt the sincerity with which he has said this comment. And at any rate, it has no bearing. Since Iran has changed the reality on the ground and is already a regional power with global ambitions. Anyone else noted the patronizing way with which American leaders address the world? It's sick.

The America has proved is the worst enemy of Iran in 36 years past after Islamic Revolution, without US even Saddam could not hold war against Iran for one week. US used to give satellite military photos of Iranian bases and corps during the war and helped them consultatively in any matter.

US is a "totally fake country" which is formed about 300 years in Land of Indians by British emigrants.

US has created tens of wars directly and indirectly which has caused millions of people killed.

US was ally of Saddam, but when she did need saddam anymore invaded Iraq which caused millions of Iraqis killed.

US has created 62 coups and civil wars all over the world in the 100 years ago.

US has created worst dangerous terrorists in the world including Taliban in Afghanistan and ISIS and FSA in Syria and Iraq.

US is Land of Indians who got massacred by British Americans.

US is the best ally of the terrorist state of israel (worst enemy of Muslims) and Saudi regime, the biggest supporter of terrorism.

US is the best ally of GCC monarchs but talk about democracy.

US is 10,000 kms farther than Iran but had tens of military bases around Iran.

sanctions placed on Iran by USA and western countries because of Iran's nuclear program.
those were just for the people of Iran... regime was free to import any thing... irrespective of the fact that it could be used to run centrifuges or not.
The process required simple permission from US and that's it and US has given many of them.... and if my memory serve me, Germany was so infuriated with this stupid permission that they continued usual trade, even without going through the BS.

Memo to Obama: Iran is Already a Successful Regional Power
By Aaron Goldstein on 12.30.14 | 9:57AM

During his year end interview with NPR, President Obama demonstrates why being delusional and ignorant are a lethal combination when he spoke about Iran:

So, when I came into office, the world was divided and Iran was in the driver's seat. Now the world's united because of the actions we've taken, and Iran's the one that's isolated.

They have a path to break through that isolation and they should seize it. Because if they do, there's incredible talent and resources and sophistication inside of — inside of Iran, and it would be a very successful regional power that was also abiding by international norms and international rules, and that would be good for everybody. That would be good for the United States, that would be good for the region, and most of all, it would be good for the Iranian people.

I recall a scene from Cheers where Frasier Crane asks Cliff Clavin, "Tell me, what color is the sky in your world?" In Obama's world, he thinks Iran is isolated just as he thinks Russia is isolated. Last I checked, Russia annexed Crimea and has sent troops into Ukraine.

I hate to break it Obama, but Iran is already a successful regional power given its influence in both Iraq and Syria. Their success coupled with Obama's determination to get an agreement with Iran at any cost is sufficient enough for Israel and Gulf Arab states like Saudi Arabia to privately set aside their differences and work on a common military strategy concerning Iran.

Should Iran acquire a nuclear weapon, it will go from being a successful regional power to a global one.

Then again we can't really expect much from Obama. He thinks Tehran is a country.

"I hate to break it Obama, but Iran is already a successful regional power given its influence in both Iraq and Syria. "

Successful? Gaining influence in two war-torn regions where mercenaries and militias are running around, shooting eachother up won't make a nation a successful regional power.

"Gaining influence"

Iran has had major influence in countries like Iraq, Syria,Lebanon before you were even born kid, this influence is not something new. Now just because there is some militias fighting in those countries, it does not diminish Iranian influence but rather increase it because now countries like Iraq and Syria are much more dependent on Iran than they used to be.

I wonder what constitutes a regional player in the eyes of your people, perhaps pakistan is a regional player

The term "gaining influence" does not mean I was saying Iran had no influence in the regions before.
But sure, if you want to pretend Iran wielded massive influence before I was born, supporting Shi'ite and Kurdish terrorists who were being massacred by the Saddam regime daily, go ahead.

I wonder what constitutes a regional player in the eyes of your people, perhaps pakistan is a regional player

Being a regional power is different from being a regional player. Even countries like Qatar and the UAE are regional players, but they are hardly considered regional powers.
