There's no need for the massive nuclear arsenal we currently possess, its a money sink, and their purpose of deterrance and MAD against any one nation would be as much served at 2000 or 1000 nuclear weapons as at the current 5000+

That said the amount we keep should of course be modernized.

Cuts would be fine if other nations were also cutting their weapons but they aren't. The Chinese and Russian arsenals are staying the same or increasing in the case of the Chinese so it would be premature for such drastic cuts on our part if our main rivals are just staying put.

So what if they stay put? At 1000-2000 nukes, their lands are waste anyways. We should think logically about our needs first, rather than arbitrarily measuring our arsenals against others.

Our goal shouldn't be to have more nukes than x country, it should be to have enough to take out x country... and y country, who would benefit from number one and number two being taken out of the picture.... no real need for more under our own dollars imo.
