NEW YORK: In what is seen here as an unprecedented attack on the chief of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, the ISI, a leading American newspaper called upon the US government on Friday to use its influence to hasten departure of Lt-Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha.

“It should tell Pakistan’s security leadership that if Washington identifies anyone in ISI or the army as abetting terrorists, those individuals will face sanctions like travel bans or other measures.”

The New York Times came up with an editorial which lashed out at ISI and said it had “become inimical to Pakistani and American interests” and asked President Asif Ali Zardari “to speak out firmly against abuses, insist on adherence to the rule of law and join his political rival, Nawaz Sharif, in pressing the security services to change”.

“That can start by insisting on the retirement of Lt-Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha, the ISI chief, and the appointment of a more credible successor,” the newspaper said in a second editorial on the murder of journalist Saleem Shahzad.

The editorial said: “Now the Obama administration has evidence implicating the ISI in this brutal killing.” According to The Times’s Jane Perlez and Eric Schmitt, American officials say new intelligence indicates that senior ISI officials ordered the attack on Mr Shahzad to silence him.

Adm Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed on Thursday that Pakistan’s government “sanctioned” the killing, but he did not tie it directly to ISI.—Masood Haider

Why? Cause he posses power that scares them. He can do unexpected things and has the power to confrontate and act as a barrier between US and Pakistan or even more! He is a great man. He should remain. We should all back him.

Many twisting and lies in NYT.

ISI including chief Pasha is doing best for the sake of Pakistan's interests. GoP refused to remove ISI Chief after Pasha resignation proposal.

This shows that how desparetly American's top military persons and agencies are looking someone to put blame on him about their failure.............that they were pride being a Super Power and now after more than 10 years of War no success and now they need someone to blame this failure....coz they can't adjust and swallow their failure and can't tell their peoples that after so many years and after spending lot of money of American peoples they got nothing in this war.
NY times mostly publishing articles which are baseless and without any research proofs and just alligations.

Did US removed his CIA/Army chief when Wikileaks showed the video of the Iraqi journalists been gunned/killed down brutally and mercilessly....?
Did the New York times demanded for their removal no ...??
So this means the NY Times newspapers is infact run by CIA and shold be shut down alongwith the CIA agency cuz it got the blood of the innocent pplz, journalists etc etc on its hand ...they have been caught red handed million times ... so this evil CIA agency needa be shut down dismantled and abolished for the sake and respect of the innocent pplz who laid their lives and sacred blood for the sake of freedom and liberty........around the world.......Insha-Allah......:coffee:
Now so many evidences been found out against this evil terrorist organization (CIA) that it was infact running the Alqaeda and Osama Group to terrorise and kill innocent peoples mercilessly around the world...and infact they have solid ground behind the killing of Saleem Shehzad too.....to malign the ISI/Army ...but they will get crap/fail in the end ...Insha-Allah!.......Alhamdolillah!.................:)

BTW has India claimed Ahmed Shuja Pasha was involved in the Mumbai attacks?

The ISI, under Pasha since the Davis controversy, has reportedly been pushing for a more formal and transparent intelligence and military cooperation agreement with the US, which the US has not found to its liking.

Given the status of the NYT as a propaganda mouthpiece for the US Establishment, on foreign policy issues at least, the NYT editorial likely reflects anti-Pasha US Establishment opinion, because of the push-back from Pakistan for a more formal and official agreement.

It will be interesting, given the obvious US Establishment pressure and smear/propaganda campaign, whether Pasha completes his term or not.

Perhaps due to double dealing that ISI involves in WOT, NYT is calling for such actions in lieu of American interests. It is another matter if Pakistan Army listens to it or not.

Anyone who has served in Pakistan Armed Forces and has become a 3 star general means he is a Pakistani Patriot so even if he is replaced the new guy will be a Patriotic Guy.Yesterday i was watching Robert Fisk Interview and vividly mentioned NYT/WSJ as a propaganda machine (not in domestic affairs but foreign affairs)for US Administration specially during wars (In that case he was talking about iraq war).

No - It does not work like that. What Robert Fisk said is that NYT people don't go to wars or on the ground they just go to white house or Pentagon etc and get their information from their PR Staff so it always one sided view which is more of a propaganda then pure journalism.

Of course, something that is unpalatable to Pakistan must be propaganda or CIA stooges.
Of course something that is from Western Media must always be true - You indians act more Americans then American themselves.I am sure if Iraqi WMD drama was presented today you would be defending NYT..oh wait it was conspiracy..there were no WMD's.

I wish NYT calls on US to

search for their own missing nukes.
investigate why innocents are still in Guantanamo bay?
investigate why children use guns in US campuses.?
investigate why GW bush lied about WMD in IRAQ.?
investigate why Bush got elected for a second term?

investigate why i am going offtopic:D
