NYPD officer arrested in India 'as revenge' for 'Nannygate' diplomatic scandal
as officials charge him with breaking an Arms Act because he had three bullets in his pocket

A New York City police officer has been arrested in India in an alleged act of retribution for the scandal late last year involving an Indian diplomat and her nanny in Manhattan.
Manny Encarnacion was arrested at the international airport in New Delhi after authorities charged him with violating the Arms Act of 1959 because he had three bullets in his jacket pocket.
The specifics of how he allegedly broke the law remain unclear but a comment made by one of the arresting officers suggests that it had more to do with the treatment of the Indian diplomat, Deyani Khobragade, than anything else.

'You guys like to strip-search our diplomats,' said one of the Indian police officers allegedly, according to The New York Post.

That was around the same time that Mr Encarnacion was taken into custody by Indian police.
The 49-year-old officer was traveling to India to visit his wife Vida who is a student living in Iran.
When he was going through a security screening at the airport, they found three bullets in his jacket pocket that he had accidentally left there from when he was at a shooting range doing his required NYPD recertification days before his trip.

Yes, this was act of retribution. For revenge, Indians inforced the law.

Lolololololololol great going India .. Screw your diplomatic ties with USA ..:)
Did you even read the news?

A similar story, concerning an Indian citizen, much earlier than the Nannygate:
‘Yaariyan’ actress Rakul Preet Singh found carrying bullets | The Indian Express
Rakul Preet who made her big screen debut earlier this year with Yaariyan was detained at the Delhi airport. Apparently the actress was travelling to Mumbai and while going through the security check at the Delhi airport, a suspicious metallic object was found in her bag. On scrutiny the said object turned out to be a bullet, owing to which she was asked to step aside. Rakul was later detained for carrying a bullet in her bag by the CISF and was questioned for hours about the bullet.

Later on closer examination, the 8mm bullet that is not available in India turned out to be a dummy that was used on sets of Rakul’s south film shoot eight months earlier. Post this discovery Rakul was released by the police.

It is a normal procedure, in an airport, specially if it is international, they would detain you if you are carrying weapons/ammunitions of any sort.

If indeed he was carrying those rounds on him, there will be a punishment. A careless mistake is still a mistake nevertheless. India is on the right side on this one. How did he get on the plane with these on him ?

Seriously read this article:
'You guys like to strip-search our diplomats,' said one of the Indian police officers allegedly, according to The New York Post.
"The NYPD is trying to bring home a Harlem cop who’s being detained on trumped-up charges by Indian authorities"

" for inadvertently traveling there with three bullets in his checked luggage."

"Encarnacion, who is assigned to the 25th Precinct, tucked three spare rounds into his jacket pocket, and forgot about them."

“He knows he didn’t do anything wrong,” said Raul Borbon, 45, who is a friend of the officer. “It’s an innocent mistake.

So this genius forgets he has 3 BULLETS in his possession when travelling abroad but he should be let off because it was "an innocent mistake" and he simply "forgot" they were there?

Is anyone under any illusion that these are "trumped up" charges? This is a SERIOUS incident.

As @Skull and Bones said, an Indian should try taking 3 live bullets into a US airport and see how kindly they are dealt with then.....

As a police officer he really should know better. This is damn fine work by the Indian security agencies, probably the CISF- good on them.

To link this to the Deyani Khobragade case is pretty retarded. He's not a US diplomat just some lowly NYPD cop, US media trying to make excuses for this idiot.....

It is possible to bring in live ammunition and guns, but one has to declare it to the flight service and subsequent landing airport for custom clearance, and has to be carried in the checked in luggage. But having live ammo in jacket pocket indicates serious flaws in security of the airport he boarded the flight from.

Then tell all you Bangladeshis to stop coming here so we can only give the cow piss to Indian citizens and not lungi pole vaulters.

they are our flying lungi special forces. We change the demographics of west bengal and tripura and when the inevitable balkanization of India occurs we will annex the coastal region of West Bengal. Then we will export all the bengali nationalists and hindus to the rest of the land and we shall rename the land dalitstan..we can all live in harmony....go flying lungi brigade!

Only a very select few people are eligible to carry live ammunition/firearms into a foreign country. A regular cop has absolutely ZERO right to do so. Correct, him being able to board a flight with live ammunition on his person has exposed a very serious failing of the US security services, this could not be more serious. I wonder what the captain of that plane that flew him into India would have to say on being informed one of his passengers carried explosive substances aboard his flight? This is jeopardised flight safety and the lives of everyone on that flight.

Of course the US media would like to down play this as "India trumping up charges" against a poor innocent American police officer. In a post-9/11 world this should be a moment of introspection- all their elaborate and exhaustive security measures found wanting and the Indian security services have proven themselves to be more effective...
