This. This so many times.
Desis place a negative stigma on blue collar workers.
When in fact they are:
a) more prosperous in the West
and b) I have found electricians here to be better than many electrical engineering grads that come to Australia.
That is because there is no substitute for practical experience. I was shocked to find out that a good railway track welder in England/Scotland region makes 45-55k GBP per year, that is London Investment Banking level compensation. But look at the job he does: Heavy welding, moving heavy objects come rain or snow.
A skilled engineer who works in design and development will be very well off too, however there are few of them in any organization.
Every time we here, so and so company is laying off workers. But those workers are junior engineers, senior engineers, marketing team, assistants etc. They never lay off the chief engineer. Because with him gone, you don't have anything to sell.
You don't kill the goose that gives you the golden egg.
