NEW DELHI: With 26/11 attacks seriously exposing technological disadvantages that our security forces are faced with, the National Security Guards (NSG) is on a modernization spree buying Taser guns and creating super commandoes on the lines of US Navy seals.

The elite commando force has acquired a large number of Taser guns — a variant of stun gun that temporarily paralyses a victim — from Taser International to avoid killing innocents in an anti-terror operation. Several 26/11 victims almost got killed by security forces' bullets on the night of Mumbai attacks when fleeing victims amid the chaos in Taj Mahal Hotel were mistaken for terrorists.

Sources said, to avoid such a situation, the elite commando force will now use Taser guns on such people unless they are clearly identified as terrorists. The gun works on eletro-shock technology that cuts the link between the brain and motor neurons making muscles temporarily non-functional even as the victim remains conscious. The gun has a range of about 10-11 m.

Apart from this the force is also acquiring self-extinguishing fire suits, state-of-the-art bugs and surveillance equipment, high-range bomb detection gadgets and camera-fitted eyewear.

However, the most ambitious project that the force is pursuing is the creation of what it calls the 'Future Black Cat Commando' or the super commando. Inspired by the US Navy Seals' Abbottabad operation to kill Osama Bin Laden, the project aims to arm its commandoes with gadgets "that make them a walking system" for seamless exchange of information and command with the control room resulting in more effective operations.

The idea, said sources, is to conduct operations much in the same way as US Navy Seals, who had communicated with their command centre in real time, with US President Barack Obama watching the entire operation live.

These commandoes will be armed with gadgets, including multiple cameras, microphones, messaging services etc, which will send live feeds of the situation at the operation site to command centre and receive information and orders on strategy from their commanding officer in real time.

A senior NSG officer said, "Presently, we enter a situation based on inputs given by intelligence agencies or local police. The real scenario is at times found to be different from the input. Thus, the new situation requires a new command in real time, but that is not possible at the moment leading to delay and losses in operations."

The force has already conducted a trial run of the new system successfully during its training programmes and is hoping to make it operational within three years.

Maybe SWAT is a better example

Why NSG not using Corner Short in such scenarios. The benefit of corner shot is it is data linked with command post and whole operation is being seen in command post. Any unexpected change in situation occurs and command post quickly makes and relay the decision quickly!

The NSG has many CornerShot systems!

Comparing the NSG to the USN SEALs is silly journalism.

The NSG, more importantly the GOI has woken up it seems! I am anxiously awaiting what the NSG will look like in 2015 when their 'Future Black Cat Commando' project is complete.

They are looking a lot better already in 2013:

Let's see what more goodies this project brings!!

Looks quite warm for the Climate we live in India ? But then they are soldiers.

All the gear is necessary, yes it is India but these guys are super fit commandos. The gear goes with the territory.

There has to be TASERs in the hand of every policemen in India. If you can give them guns, then what's holding you back to give them a non lethal weapon?

its training, guts and ''a gun'' which matters, not cosmetics...

Never been a fan of the NSG name. Something a little more badass sounding wold be nice :triniti:
