ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif Friday asserted that Lieutenant General Ikramul Haq was among five candidates who were being deliberated upon by the government for the post of army chief.

Earlier, four names were being thought upon to lead the military after General Raheel Sharif, who will formally retire on November 29.

Asif said that a decision would be taken by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif once he concludes his two-day Turkmenistan visit and return to Pakistan.

The commander of Gujranwala Corps, General Haq belongs to Infantry Regiment and 64th Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Long Course. He has also served as Inspector General Training and Aviation.

Other four names that are being deliberated upon are Lieutenant General Zubair Mehmood Hayat, Lieutenant General Ishfaq Nadeem, Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal Ramday and Lieutenant General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

What makes Mr.Nawaz Sharif so strong nowadays? Where was his spine even a month ago? What's the secret?

.
He should go with the Merit, though Constitution doesn't say Merit should be strictly taken into consideration, but Nawaz is known for his adventurism, & his Advisers like Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Saad & ofcourse his Family Kitchen Cabinet led by His own Daughter Maryam...

.
NS is making this simple matter much controversial
