Norway Plans To Buy 12 F-35 Jets In 2019-2020

Norway is planning to purchase 12 Lockheed Martin-built F-35 joint strike fighters in 2019-2020.

Norway’s defense department submitted a 2017 budget proposal in parliament recently which outlined the country’s plans to purchase 12 planes in the 2019 and 2020 “block buy,” Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

“They continue to stay strong in the program and it shows the confidence they have in the F-35,” said Ken Ross, a spokesman for Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, where the airplane is built. Norway had plans to buy 52 aircraft.

By committing to buying the F-35 in a future block, the economy of scale will help drive down the cost to the desired $80 million to $85 million per plane, from $112 million per copy in 2013. F-35 customers plan on procuring about 450 aircraft from 2018 to 2020.

“Norway and other international partners on the F-35 program have been involved in the concept of a block buy since its inception,” said Joe DellaVedova, a Pentagon spokesman for the F-35 program. “Due to vast economies of scale, all countries will achieve significant reductions on the price of their jets”.

and what about ur old f16s we want them plz give us

You both realize that when they are finally removed from RNoAF service they'll be nearly 40 year old A/B models that have already undergone Mid-life extension programs, right?

These are some of the original F-16s, license built by Fokker and part of the original NATO-4 - being the first four nations to use the F-16 following the United States.

They seen heavy service in Baltic and Icelandic airspace during NATO Air Policing operations, have served in Afghanistan in support of Telemark Battalion, took part in operations in Libya, there's only so much life left in the airframes.

Apart from the age of the airframes, there's a problem of the limited Pakistan-Norwegian defense ties and are nearly non-existent.

These aircraft are more likely to be transferred to Poland or Romania then sold to Pakistan.

You people have cleaned them very well looking like brand new..

Coming on topic: You are right we have no defence ties with Norway it will be really difficult and I thought they will be block C/D or something like that but they are A/B and are gone MLU..
Not work much however 5-6 million each piece will be a nice deal and they will be upgraded via Turkey..

Can u plz give the no.of aircraft in service..???

Now, this is called the professional planning..where PAF lacks..12 is very small number, not even a complete squadron..but look at the capability they are bringing...PAF has wasted last decade...everyone realised we will need an extra plat form 4.5 gen..but PAF did nothing in this regard...if PAF had started buying 4.5 gen planes in such small numbers,we would have atleast 2 squadrons till now and we could move very conveniently towards 5th gen very conveniently at this time...But look where are we standng right now..we neither have 4.5 gen nor 5 gen is coming soon.

People here keep on saying we have money issues, in Musharaf era, money was not problem..if we had decided to take a step forward, our PAF would really have a mighty force today...but the ego n interests of PAF decision makers and their Heer-ranjha love for F-16...have made the situation of PaF so feeble today...But members of this forum will continue to ignore PAF mistakes in decision making.
