North Korean Leader Kim Jong Il, 69, Has Died

Hope this brings N Korea out of isolation. Asian leaders have to push for reunification of Koreas and remove the American influence in the region.
america will do anything to prevent that from happening

Korean media calls leader’s son Kim Jong-un 'great successor'

North Korea’s state news agency KCNA has called the late leader Kim Jong-il’s son, Jong-un, a “great successor.”

The “dear leader,” who has led the secretive nuclear-armed state since 1994, died aged 69 while traveling on his train on Saturday.

He suffered a heart attack due to “physical and mental over-work,” state television announced.
KCNA urged the communist nation to rally behind the younger Kim, who is believed to have been groomed to take over power and was appointed a general last year.

The dear leader’s enigmatic third son, who is thought to be in his late 20s, is the “great successor to the revolutionary cause of Juche [North Korea’s national ideology of self-reliance] and outstanding leader of our party, army and people,” KCNA said. However, North Korea has gone through a prolonged spell of economic hardship and food shortages, with some suggesting that a humanitarian disaster is unfolding in the reclusive state.

A funeral for Kim Jong-il will be held in Pyongyang on December 28, with the mourning period lasting until December 29, KCNA said. No foreign delegations will be allowed to attend the funeral. Kim’s body is now laid in a massive mausoleum in Pyongyang where his father, Kim Il-sung, lies in state in a glass case.

News of Kim’s death came in an emotional bulletin broadcast on state television.

“It is our people and nation’s biggest sadness,” the tearful announcer, wearing black, said as she told viewers of the dear leader’s death.

The U.S. White House spokesman Jay Carney said President Barack Obama had been notified and that Washington was “in close touch with our allies in South Korea and Japan.”

“We remain committed to stability on the Korean peninsula, and to the freedom and security of our allies,” Carney said.

A spokesman for South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak said the leader spoke to Obama over the telephone and that the two agreed to “closely cooperate and monitor the situation together,” the BBC reported.

Sorry mate, in terms of in depth high-tech and pure research, SK is no match with Germany. SK doesn't have anything comparable to Frauenhofer Institut or Max-Planck-Institut. LG, Samsung are making good consumer products for the masses, but they still have nothing in comparison to Loewe Loewe Home Entertainment Systeme, Leica http://de.leica-camera.com/home/ not to mention our automobile companies. In all those so called SKorean products, you would find tons of German products produced by German mittelstand and with German machine tools.

Germans are also known for being hard-working, disciplined and perfectionists. We don't need to work as long, because we are more efficient and with less working hours, we earn and produce more than the Koreans.

Just a short period ago some vietnamese losers here laughing on your German don't know how to make a products and let russian over taken your country!

If you say this stuff to koean they will definitely hate you just like the viets!!!

also there are thousand of vietnamese labor wokers now are living in the south korea, they do have favor to the country they are serving is nothing surprise!

Richer - maybe
Technologically more advanced - you must be kidding. Germany was technologically more advanced than South Korea, but not is. I lived in South Korea. Everthing there are automated to the extent I do not think it can happen in Germany. The strong point of Germany is traditional engineering, not hi-tech industries like Samsung, LG or Hyundai.
The Korean is hard-working and very disciplined people. Working until around 9pm in Seoul is normal. And they are also the world highest IQ people. I believe they can handle the unification better than Germany.

I currently live in Korea and I have to say that I must disagree.
Most Koreans don't even want unification because that would mean a lot of problems.
Koreans are some of the most xenophobic people on earth. So much so that they even hate other Koreans.
North Korean defectors are treated like 3rd class humans here, they cant get jobs or have a normal life.
Most South Koreans just want the status quo.

Also "Koreans are hard workers" is a joke.
I work with them every day and I can tell you that 60% of there "12" hour days are spend just surfing the web or socializing.
according to the economist magazine Korea has some of the lowest productivity in the world.

Koreans cry and moan for their passed leader.

america will do anything to prevent that from happening

of course they will , in the years post 1953, after west Germany the largest troop concentration was in south Korea . no way are they going to let that get degraded.
