North Korea has reportedly threatened military action against South Korea unless Seoul apologises for 'insulting' the centenary celebrations of Pyongyang's late founding leader Kim Il-sung.

Pyongyang said it will wage a 'sacred war to wipe out the group of the Lee Myung-bak group of traitors' and 'blow up everything' in Seoul, in a series of statements carried by the official KCNA news agency.

The threats follow comments by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak last week that North Korea's failed rocket launch cost Pyongyang about $850 million, and that it could have spent the money towards buying 2.5 million tonnes of corn, the Korea Times reported.

North Korea has suffered from acute food shortage since a famine in the 1990s.

South Korea also said a further $350 million went towards 'propaganda purposes' and renovating a landmark hotel for the centenary festivities, the equivalent of feeding North Korea's 24 million people for 100 days.

Pyongyang said the rocket would put an earth observation satellite into orbit, but the US said it was cover for a missile technology test.

The UN Security Council condemned the launch and ordered fresh sanctions.

I am more impressed by North Korea's stockpile of chemical and biological weapons, and how these could be tactically effective against a densely populated valley like Seoul.

Are you not impressed with the cruise missile test or did it too veer off its course at 1.08 min :blah:

I think any threat from N Korea has to be taken seriously, they are one of those countries that dose not have much to lose except for their leaders.

North Korea threatens war, Seoul unveils new missile - Indian Express

North Korea today demanded that South Korea apologise for what it called insults during major anniversary festivities, or face a "sacred war", as Seoul unveiled a new missile to deter its neighbour.

Regional tensions have risen since Pyongyang went ahead with a long-range rocket launch last Friday, defying international calls to desist.

The event was to have been a centrepiece of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary Sunday of the "Day of the Sun", the birthday of Kim Il-Sung who founded the communist nation and the dynasty which still rules it.

NK are all talk and no action.

The unpredictability is what makes NK more dangerous than any other country. What if Kim Jong Un feels a threat and wants to do something stupid to prove himself to the military?

.
NK's equipment is garbage (rocket test) but they can still hurt the south. More big talk though.

North Korea missiles do the job of striking Seoul; it is a South Korea-specific missile, nothing more. North Korea doesn't need to threaten anyone else, just South Korea.
And Kim Jong Eun can look outside the window from his office and see a wave of cruise missiles approaching in his direction.

Frankly no one in the South cares. If Kim Jong Eun carries out his threat then we know the time has finally come for the liberation of North Korea.
